Whenever I write about a tornado or flood or blizzard or earthquake or wildfire or ice storm or inland hurricane or any other type of natural disaster hitting our state, I usually joke that the only natural phenomenon Oklahoma hasn’t experienced yet is a deadly meteorite impact.
Well, I guess I’m done joking.
Early this morning, a wayward meteor that was obviously hurled in our direction by an angry God looking for an insurance claim on the state he now owns exploded in the skies over Northwestern Oklahoma.
Fortunately for all of us, God doesn’t have the best aim.
Video of this morning's meteor taken from my neighborhood in Verdigris Oklahoma. A neighbors security camera caught this, with audio of the meteorite as it entered the atmosphere. She (Tiffany S.) gave me permission to share this. Attention @LauraMockWX#okwx#bolide#Meteoritpic.twitter.com/2C7b56eN0Y
Ready to hear the boom from this morning's meteor over Oklahoma? The sound was 2 minutes and 46 seconds after the first light of the meteor. Video from Judy Bieber Fichtl in Broken Arrow. @FOX23@jamesaydelottpic.twitter.com/elpn8eXbZE
We have have received multiple reports this morning, including videos, of a meteor that occurred over northeast Oklahoma this morning. This was detected by the Geostationary Lightning Mapper (GLM) shown as a blue dot over Wagoner county. #meteor#GLMpic.twitter.com/I8sCseNB76
Whew. Whether that was a warning shot from God and/or Gary England conducting an experiment with the meteorological dark arts, it looks like we really dodged a celestial bullet on that one.
Anyway, I guess if you have any door or dash cam footage of the event handy, put it on social media so you can get some likes and shares before everyone forgets about it.
