Caryn “Sassy Mama” Ross Fired From News 9!

Over the past few days, we’ve fielded multiple questions from concerned News 9 viewers wondering what happened to the station’s food, kitchen, and lifestyle contributor – Caryn “The Sassy Mama” Ross.

As you may recall, Caryn – who has been a fixture on the locally owned and operated channel’s daytime programming since at least 2010 – dropped a very clear and very audible F-bomb during a recent broadcast, and hasn’t been seen once on air since.

It’s already one of the great blooper reels in OKC TV history:

The well-publicized clip, along with the timing of Caryn’s absence, had many wondering if the two were connected. Could Caryn have possibly been suspended, or even worse, let go by the station?

The simple answer to that question is “Yes.”

Thanks to a tip via the Ogle Mole Network, we have learned that News 9 has indeed fired Caryn Ross over the accidentally aired F-bomb. Here’s a more extended look at the gaffe that someone shared on TikTok:

As you can see, the F-bomb wasn’t some sudden live-TV slip-up where Ross accidentally nuked the FCC from the studio kitchen. It came during a pre-recorded “behind the scenes” clip package that Ross apparently provided to the channel, and somehow, the expletive wasn’t caught, scrubbed, or edited out before the segment made its way onto the air.

Despite that shared editing failure, it sounds like Ross was the only one who paid the price. She was promptly fired after the clip aired, with one person describing the decision as basically happening on the spot.

If you think that sounds like a harsh punishment for a longtime TV personality with a loyal following, I agree with you. We all say bad words all the time, and I bet more people have been harmed by some of Caryn’s bad recipes than by one accidentally aired expletive. I know I’m not the one paying the FCC fine, but it feels like an overreaction.

That being said, as one Ogle Mole described it, saying the F-bomb on air is one of the cardinal sins of broadcasting. You can usually recover from a bad joke about colonization, but lots of places have a much harder time getting over a crystal-clear “fuck” making it onto daytime TV.

Anyway, we wish Caryn the best of luck in her future sassy endeavors. Who knows? Maybe this is the universe’s way of telling her to skip the delicate world of local broadcast television and take her talents somewhere more forgiving – like YouTube, TikTok, or any other platform where saying “fuck” is less controversial than overcooking chicken.

Until then...
