Friendly reminder – Ryan Walters isn’t the only person who likes to use his elected office to promote himself in the national media!
Yesterday morning, Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt made a brief appearance on CBS Face the Nation to successfully dodge questions, share party-approved talking points, and do all the other things politicians do on the Sunday morning news show circuit.
With a national election only three months away, the decision to give a dopey, lame-duck red state governor—who miscalculated and endorsed the wrong guy for president during the primary season—may seem like an odd choice. But I guess producers wanted to discuss Harris’ housing plan and figured a conservative banker who was banned from doing business in Georgia would be a good person to criticize it.
Check this out:
I don’t think Kevin Stitt is wrong with some of his critiques of the Harris housing plan. If you provide millions of people with $25,000 to buy a house, there’s a good chance home and real estate prices will go up, leading to inflation.
What I don’t understand is why he’s against it!
Stitt sure didn’t seem to mind that Oklahoma private school tuition surged when he gave higher-income folks up to $7,500 in tax credit vouchers to send their kids to private schools. For some reason, he seemed totally fine with inflation, rising tuition costs, and government handouts in that situation.
If only Harris's housing plan also included a way to harm public education, maybe Stitt would be singing a different tune.
Also, you’d think a plan that would give first-time homebuyers $25K to put down on a house and lead to the construction of 3,000,000 new homes would appeal to a shady mortgage banker.
Remember—Stitt made his millions giving bad mortgages to unqualified homebuyers during the subprime mortgage boom that wrecked the economy, so you’d figure he’d be for anything that would let predatory lending flourish!
Who knows? Maybe Stitt’s just upset that he won’t qualify, or that no first-time homebuyer will be able to afford his $2.75-million Edmond mansion...
After their round of boring back and forth about the housing plan, the interviewer played a clip from Ron DeSantis—the guy Stitt endorsed for president much to Trump's chagrin—and asked if President Trump “was getting in his own way.”
Stitt ignored the question and went on a mini-stump speech against Kamala Harris. His taxpayer-funded comms team must have liked his response because they re-shared it on X:
I rarely watch the Sunday morning political news shows, and I’d like to thank that clip for reminding me why.
Seriously, what’s the point in having these people on TV to discuss issues if they’re not going to answer questions? It’s almost like these shows serve no useful purpose other than giving political parties the opportunity to promote propaganda, establish talking points, and generate clips for social media.
Basically, it’s like a Sunday morning NFL preview show, only with no football afterward.
Anyway, I guess the next time you see Kevin Stitt on a national news program, just remember: he's not there to give real answers or offer meaningful insight—he's there to play the game, even if he’s stuck on the sidelines.
