As we explained on Tuesday, Kevin Stitt shocked the local education world on Tuesday when announced he was nominating Dr. Katherine Curry – the Associate Professor of Educational Leadership at Oklahoma State University – to replace State School Superintendant Ryan Walters as his choice for State Secretary of Public Education.
The news was surprising for a couple of reasons:
1. Stitt and Ryan Walters – his previous Secretary of Education – are regular old right-wing pals who seemed equally determined to destroy public education from the inside with the help of their conservative pals and grifters.
2. Dr. Curry seemed like a sane, reasonable, and qualified choice – an accomplished OSU professor with a doctorate in Educational Administration and Supervision. Basically, she wasn’t a private school grifter or homeschool mom with 12 kids who lived in shoe in Alva.
Well, at least that what’s it seemed.
Not too long after the news jolted across that Oklahoma social media sphere, we started receiving word from some Ogle Moles that Dr. Curry is the Academic Director of something called the “Edupranuer Academy.”
Yep, that’s right – Edupranuer.
If that sounds like a fancy portmanteau of Education and Enterpranuer that the founders of Epic Charter Schools made up for when they hit on women at Sidecar, well, you’re right.
Here’s how the Edupranuer Acadamy describes it on their “About Page.”
An edupreneur is an educator with an entrepreneurial mindset.
Everyone has a mindset. Your mindset consists of your values, assumptions, and knowledge. You use your mindset to process information, inform decisions, and guide behavior. People with an entrepreneurial mindset, for example, see challenges as opportunities. They are able to identify new ways of solving problems and making a positive social impact. Educational entrepreneurs do this through the lens of education.
Granted, I don’t have a doctorate in education, but I thought the whole point of an “About Us” page was to clearly explain who you are or what you do, and not just throw around vague word salad that doesn’t really explain anything about you, and simply leave people more confused?
As a result, I did some more digging around the site. For the most part, it looks like the Edupranuer Academy is a place you can go to learn how to create your own profitable school for only $999.
Yep, that’s right!
For only $999 you too can learn the secrets of how to design, operate and develop a business plan for your own profitable school.

Anyway, knowing that Dr. Curry is an edupreneur – which somehow sounds even douchier than entrepreneur – I guess we know why Stitt gave her the job. It will be interesting to see how she applies the edupreneur mindset across the state, and what wonderful edupreneurial scams and schemes that abuse and misuse public education funding develop from them.
