Bob Mills Sky News 9 Hits the Salvage Auction Block…

A piece of OKC media history can be yours… for the right price!

We were recently airdropped a tip via the Ogle Mole Network informing us that remains of Sky News 9 HD (Oct 2024 - April 2025) have hit the helicopter salvage auction block.

In case you forgot, Jim Gardner wrecked the chopper back in April and – thanks to him being an insurance risk – had to step down.

Listed by Underwriters Salvage Company and located in Shawnee, bids for the chopper will be accepted for 9 more days, meaning if you need a spare engine, rotor blade, or one of Bob Mills’s old sweaters, you'd better act now!

Just be aware, some of the parts may be damaged:

Yikes. I haven’t flown a helicopter since I worked at a mall kiosk 10 years ago, but I prefer my transmissions to not have holes in them!

That being said, I wonder if the Bob Mills furniture protection plans cover the hydraulic fluid inside the cabin area? If it’s transferable, you may be able to score a totally restored interior!

Anyway, it’s been a minute since I collected scrap metal or tried to restore helicopter wreckage, so I can’t advise what you should bid — but if you’re handy with machinery, it could be worth your time.

Sky News 9 was a top-of-the-line chopper! It was introduced at the Paris Air Show, is 35.9 feet long and 11.4 feet high, and has – or at least "had" – a rotor diameter of 35 feet.

I know all this thanks to that boring social media marketing campaign News 9 created when they unveiled the chopper last October:

Yep, Bob Mills Sky News 9 was designed to handle a variety of weather conditions, including crosswinds and other challenging environments.

Well, unless the challenging environment has to do with "improper landing technique."

Stay with The Lost Ogle. We’ll keep you advised.
