7 Reasons to send your kid to Oklahoma City Community College

11:30 AM EDT on October 27, 2021

As most of our fine readers know, I'm a proud graduate of Oklahoma City Community College. I went to school there on both a full-time and part-time basis from 1996 to 1999, earned an Associate's Degree in Arts, and in 2013, was inducted into the college's prestigious Alumni Hall of Fame along with Lacey Lett.

Knowing all that, I was honored – and a bit troubled – when the college's marketing team took a look at the demographics in our media kit and asked if we'd come up with some reasons why parents should send their kids to Oklahoma City Community College.

Yep, that's right. In 15 short years, The Lost Ogle has gone from the digital media outlet advertisers rarely use to reach college-aged kids to one advertisers rarely turn to reach college-aged kids' parents. That's depressing. In another 15 years, expect our branded content features to rank all the reasons you should visit Wava at NuSound today.

Aging aside, I loved my time at O-Trip, and although a lot has changed at the school since I went there in the 20th-century, I still think it's a great place for your kids, or even your mom, to go to college.

Here are some reasons why...

false

1. Affordable.

OCCC is about a third of the cost of a 4-year college, so you'll be able to spend more money on yourself and not your leachy kids!

2. Being inducted into the Alumni Hall of Fame is an achievable goal!

If I'm ever forced to make a resume again – and with the way digital media is going it may happen soon – my first bullet point will be "Community College Hall of Famer." Until then, I'll probably stick with using the achievement in online dating profiles. It's a great conversation starter!

-

3. Flexibility.

OCCC offers most classes in 8-week terms instead of 16-week semesters. This allows students to jump in, focus on a few subjects, and get classes knocked out faster. Plus, you can take classes online, in-person, or even on-demand! That being said, only students who go to OCCC in-person are allowed to call it "Harvard on May."

-

4. No Greek System!

At OCCC, the question isn't what frat or sorority house you pledged to, but what apartment complex you're moving into...

"OMG. Did you hear Samantha pledged to Pickwick Place!? I thought she was going to choose Brookwood Village for sure. I guess the first month's free rent made her change her mind."

-

5. Smaller class sizes.

When I went to O-Trip, I really benefited from the smaller class sizes. They're basically the opposite of the photo above. Not only did it lead to better instruction, but it made it easier for me to forge a bond with my teacher, which in turn made it harder for them to flunk me!

-

6. No sports teams to pretend to like!

Does Bedlam stress your kid out? Is their favorite sport Drone Racing? If so, OCCC is perfect for them! Outside of the program's powerhouse race-walking program, there are no athletic programs for people to worry about!

-

7. 60 degree or certification programs!

Your kid can do what I did and earn an Associate's degree that transfers to a 4-year university, or finish a certification program and go straight into a career with more earning potential. Let's just hope blogging isn't one of them. I don't need more competition.

Anyway, those are just a few reasons to send your kid to Oklahoma City Community College, but I'm sure there are plenty more. Please leave yours in the comments.
