That's a headline I never thought I'd get to write.
Earlier this week, James Lankford held a series of very controlled and orderly town halls for the commoners and plebs who are not executives with big Oklahoma companies.
At one of the events, a brave soul had the courage to ask Lankford about Trump's tax returns. Instead of dodging the question and / or defending the former host of The Apprentice, Lankford gave a statement that most normal people would agree with.
Via KFOR:
An Oklahoma Congressman is calling on President Donald Trump to release his tax returns following mounting criticism for the administration’s lack of transparency.
During a town hall meeting on Tuesday, Sen. James Lankford said that he thinks Trump should release his tax returns.
“He promised he would. He should keep his promise,” Lankford said.
Holy shit! That's awesome! If someone would have asked that same question at a Jim Inhofe town hall, the old geezer probably would have thrown a snowball at them and howled his maniacal laugh. Okay, I'm just kidding. We all know Jim Inhofe isn't brave enough to hold town halls. He'd rather spend his time shooting pigeons.
Anyway, now that Lankford suggested Trump release his tax returns, maybe he'll hold the President accountable on all his other lies, exaggerations, crude behavior, mishaps and broken promises. Actually, let's not get greedy here. This stuff takes time.
Either way, congrats to Mr. Lankford for following the standard set by Tom Coburn on being the slightly smarter, less-evil, more sane half of our US Senate delegation. We know it has to be a challenge.
