Well, I guess we should cancel that road trip to Beckham County.
Back in June, we shared some of the culturally insensitive, borderline racist Facebook posts by Beckham County Sheriff and Essential Oil salesman Scott Jay (pictured above). Most of them were stupid memes you'd see posted on your crazy uncle's Facebook page, only this time around they were shared by a public servant who's supposed to uphold the law for people of all races, backgrounds and sexual orientations. You can view them here.
Apparently Sheriff Jay has recently heard about our critique of his Facebook skills and was not too pleased. He took a break from managing the rundown apartment complex he owns to hop on Facebook and voice his displeasure with us in a factual, comical way.
Check it out:
Yeah, that's the dumbest thing I've read this week.
First of all, if you're going to post a "fact" in a comical way, can you please make sure the "fact" is actually a fact? I'm not a racist cop or anything, but I'm pretty sure Ferguson did not hold its second annual 100% off sale yesterday. The factual caption would be "asshole looters stealing from a local business."
Second, can you make sure the "comical fact" is actually funny, or at least something people would "get?" Perhaps something like "Still Can't Find Sheriff Jay's Essential Oils Collection!" That would work much better and make you look a little less stupid. The only thing I laughed at in the photo is that some asshat put the %-sign before the number.
Third, I agree. We are idiots.
Anyway, I can't wait to see how Sheriff Jay responds to this. Will he post a meme comparing us to Caitlyn Jenner, Mexicans or some other thing we "can't get?" I really hope he does. We've had beefs with governors, media outlets and diabolical weathermen, but this is the first time we've pissed off someone who could send us to jail. That kind of raises the stakes a bit. This should be fun.
Update: He's already responded...
He's also denying he sells essential oils...
Even though his Facebook page says he's sold Essential Oils. I guess Jean is right. You really shouldn't believe everything you read.
