The Oklahoma political melodrama of the century just got a little dumber!
With Kevin Stitt and Ryan Walters quarreling like a young couple in need of some faith-based counseling, Attorney General Gentner Drummond has decided to drop into the fray like a smart bomb and stir things up a bit.
Here’s the quick setup in case you forgot:
- Stitt flexed some gubernatorial muscle this week and removed three Ryan Walters cronies from the State School Board. He did this because he—somewhat surprisingly—thinks Ryan’s push to track the immigration status of Oklahoma students is stupid, misguided, and racist.
- This compassionate cockblock made Ryan Walters very mad. In response, he fired off a tweet accusing Stitt of “joining the swampy political establishment” that Premier Trump opposes.
- Stitt held a press conference at the Capitol where he admitted that he and Ryan—like a couple of frat boys who got in a fight over the same girl—had a bit of a falling out. After years of buddying up and campaigning together, Stitt admitted they haven’t spoken in a while and that he doesn’t think their relationship is “really good at all.”
Sad, sad stuff, huh?
Anyway, apparently sensing weakness, vulnerability, and an opportunity to get some attention, AG Gentner Drummond—the guy who’s been a constant thorn in Stitt’s side and will likely oppose Ryan in the 2026 gubernatorial race—decided to jump into the middle of things.
He retweeted his future opponent’s post and shared his own anti-Stitt commentary:

Yep, did you get that?
The highborn lawyer who serves as the chairman of a bank, descends from a wealthy, powerful land-owning family, and has unlimited access to all the Pioneer Woman’s recipes is a man of the people… NOT the political elite.
In other news, Ryan Walters is a man of the sane, logical, and practical—not the Derplahoman stooge brigade.
After sending off that campaign tweet, Drummond then filed an official AG press release supporting Stitt’s decision to fire the board members but also criticizing the “Not a True Conservative” governor and Walters for creating the mess in the first place:
Attorney General Gentner Drummond is asking Gov. Stitt’s new appointees to the State Board of Education to exercise judgment independent from the governor and State Superintendent of Public Instruction Ryan Walters…
“While I welcome the Governor’s apparent ‘shake-up’ of the Board, this action is only necessary because of Gov. Stitt’s extremely poor judgment in appointing, promoting and then endorsing Ryan Walters and his anti-public schools agenda,” wrote Drummond.
Drummond detailed his concerns about public education under Stitt’s and Walters' leadership, including poor educational outcomes, the failed administration of $50 million in school security grants, illegally denied access for elected lawmakers to attend executive sessions, refusal to administer inhalers for schoolchildren, dismal transparency under the Open Records Act, pervasive waste and mismanagement of public education funds, and the denial of legislatively authorized maternity leave for teachers.
Wow. Give Gentner credit!
That’s a very long and accurate summary of Stitt and Ryan’s gaffes, failures, and schemes since they started sliding down stair rails together. I think the only thing he left out was Ryan not knowing how to spell “Sanctuary!”

Obviously, Ryan wasn’t going to let a political opponent get the last laugh. He responded to Gentner’s criticism with yet another tweet:

Yikes. That was… disappointing.
Seriously, Ryan’s a professional troll, and the best he could do was connect the AG to… Joy Hofmeister?
Oklahomans are some of the most uninformed people on the planet, and I doubt most of them even know who she is! If Ryan wants to take down Gentner, he’s going to have to do better than that. I’d suggest he go with a tried-and-true K.I.S.S. approach and connect Gent to more recognizable liberal villains like Kamala Harris, Joe Biden, or Barack Obama.
Anyway, I think this is all part of the first chapter of what should be some fun political theater to watch unfold over the next two years or so. Grab some Pioneer Woman stovetop popcorn and enjoy.
