Dean Blevins to make Oklahoma Journalism Hall of Fame…

The collective ego of the Oklahoma Journalism Hall of Fame just tripled in size.

Earlier today, News 9 announced that THE Dean Blevins—the long-time Oklahoma sports personality known for his vanity, inaccurate reporting, and fiercely guarded SmartOnes™—has been named to the 2025 class of the Oklahoma Journalism Hall of Fame.

We know this because they reported it:

The Oklahoma Journalism Hall of Fame will celebrate its 55th anniversary by honoring 20 distinguished journalists.

This year’s honorees include Griffin Media's own Dean Blevins, Oscar Pea, and the late Bill Teegins, the former sports director for News on 6 and News 9, who tragically died in the 2001 OSU plane crash.

Yep, that’s right! Pinch an intern, wash out the conditioner, and report that Bob Stoops is taking the Florida job—Dean Blevins is now a Hall of Famer!

In fact, according to Stats Inc., he's the first Oklahoma Journalism Hall of Fame inductee to be suspended for tweeting a video of a Bourbon Street flasher!

On one hand, it’s kind of weird that Dean Blevins would make a journalism hall of fame. The best journalists typically stay behind the scenes, strive for objectivity, and, you know, get things right—three things no one would ever associate with the career of Dean Blevins.

Then again, as a guy who made a Community College Hall of Fame with a lifetime 3.2 GPA, I know firsthand that fame, perceived success, and connections matter far more than actual merit when it comes to making these local hall of fame things. I’ll be sure to remind the Oklahoma Journalism Hall of Fame of this when I get inducted in 2038—aka the year they officially run out of legitimate journalists.

That said, let’s give credit where it’s due. As his News 9 bio reminds us, Dean has won plenty of awards, Emmys, and co-eds' hearts over the years. And with legendary tweets like this floating in the void, how could he not make the Hall of Fame?

In addition to Dean, other notable journalists are being honored.

The late, great Bill Teegins is also being inducted. He was the best sports anchor this market has ever seen, so that’s a well-deserved honor.

And in a move that will raise both its prestige and its collective height, the Hall of Fame is also inducting the Ogle family!

I guess that’s cool and all, but it seems like they’re forgetting someone—an Ogle who’s come out of nowhere to shake up the journalism game, an Ogle who’s built an audience that rivals major outlets, an Ogle who speaks truth to power and reports the stories others are too afraid to touch.

Of course, we’re talking about Katelyn Ogle.

She better get her flowers soon.

Anyway, congratulations to Dean, the Ogle brothers, and everyone else inducted into this year’s class of the Oklahoma Journalism Hall of Fame. Let’s just hope nobody takes a leak during their acceptance speech.
