If you’re a lifelong Oklahoma City resident over the age of 40 or so, you may remember something called the Cliff Davis Metroplex Magazine.
Well, at least I think that’s what it was called. Back then, Kliff was still a Cliff.
Airing during local commercial breaks at odd hours during the mid to late 90s –and usually sandwiched between spots for Budget Divorce, Oklahoma Discount Furniture and Attorney Victor Wood – the 60-second advertorial “magazine” would feature three or four local mom-and-pop shops that Cliff/Kliff would introduce as “businesses you need to know about.”
Naturally, the reason you’d need to know about these businesses is that they paid Cliff/Kliff – the son of Foreman Scotty – to come out to their store, salon or chiropractic office, shoot some video, write a script, package it all into a 15-second ad, and then air it with other spots in a bulk media buy.
Although he may have attempted a reboot, the Metroplex Magazine is long gone, but Kliff Davis is still alive and kicking as a local AM radio host, enjoying the wild good life as a Western Ave. socialite at the ripe young age of 75.
We know this because he had a big birthday extravaganza this past week and shared photos.
Wow. Kliff is looking surprisingly good and chipper for a 75-year-old! I like his Oklahoma Mens Clinic look much better than the Little Dutch Boy style he attempted a few years ago.
For suckers of local nostalgia, Kliff invited a who’s-who list of OKC D-list celebrities to celebrate the big Seven-Five with him, including former TV news anchor Cherokee Ballard, Color Me Badd vocalist Mark Calderon, former Sooner great Marcus Dupree, and our favorite, Diabolical Facebook Weatherman Aaron Tuttle.
Sadly, Gan Matthews couldn’t make it because he never ventures outside of Cleveland County.
Here are some pics from Kliff’s Facebook page:
First of all, did Aaron give up the spray tan for botox? I'm not judging, I'm just curious. Also, where's Carol Hefner in this local D-list madness? I bet she had to cancel at the last minute to go count homeless people on the streets with Tammy Payne.
One couple who wasn't at the birthday party was Mike and Marla Marla Morgan. They're BFFs with Kliff, but being local A-list talent, probably couldn't be seen with all the D-listers. Maybe they all meet up at a less publicized after-after party at the Lobby Bar?
Anyway, I would write some mean snarky things about all the celebrities in attendance, but I don’t want AT and Marcus Depree to beat me up and then feed me to Mark Calderon! That would be an awful way to go out!
Stay with The Lost Ogle. We’ll keep you advised.
