Thanks to a tip via the Ogle Mole Network, it appears some sections of the City of Oklahoma City website – OKC.gov – have been hacked.
Here's a pic an Ogle Mole sent us earlier this morning:
That's pretty cool! I guess it means we're officially a "Big League City" when hackers start taking note of our city website!
Sure enough, I tried to access to domain shown in the screenshot and got the following error message:
I went to the city's website and they have the following bright red alert. According to it, the hack is affecting the permitting portal, Action Center's mobile app, OKC Connect, and web reporting form.
I did a quick Google search for Vanda The God and Box 026 of Iran. Vanda is a known Brazilian hacker, while Box 026 appears to be part of Iran's cyber attack force.
I have no clue if this is the work of them or just some board teenager from Timbuktu, but whoever you are, I'd like to welcome you to OKC's website! It's not the best city website, but it's also not the worst. Have as much fun with it as you want, but I just ask that you please leave alone the part of the site I use to look up my Big Trash Day. That's about the only thing I use it for.
Also, while you're causing such mischief, would you do some funny stuff to the Mayor's section of the website? I don't know... maybe replace his headshot with photos of him hanging with celebrities? You can find a whole bunch of options on his Instagram. That would be funny. Plus, you wouldn't have to fear retribution from some all-mighty and powerful politician, because he's actually just one vote out of nine on the city council.
Stay with The Lost Ogle. We'll keep you advised.
