I follow a couple of dozen people on YouTube, and one of them is a geopolitical strategist by the name of Peter Zeihan.
Peter’s a bestselling author, speaker, and consultant who has built a large following by providing easy-to-digest, well-articulated videos about global politics and economics that go slightly against the grain of general thought.
I also subscribe to Peter’s newsletter and, much to my surprise, woke up this morning to an email titled “Sooner or Later: Oklahoma's Time to Shine.” The email contained a link to a video he recorded from his window at the Embassy Suites on NW Expressway and Independence, located right across the street from the Starbucks I visit almost every weekday morning.
I think the video was recorded a month or so ago, but in it, he provides an unbiased, outside perspective on some of the things Oklahoma actually does well, and some of the things we need to do better to thrive in the crazy changing world.
That was interesting.
Although he totally ignores our state’s backward uneducated culture, flaming right-wing politicians, and other elements of the Oklahoma Standard that will continue to hold us back – and apparently the Port of Catoosa – it’s nice to get a fresh outside perspective on what we should do as a state that doesn’t devolve into watered-down Evangelical Chamber of Commerce dogma.
Anyway, if you’re growing old and find yourself getting interested in boring topics like I apparently am, you can follow Peter on YouTube. I'm going to start researching how to build a railroad so I can get rich!
Stay with The Lost Ogle. We’ll keep you advised.
