Last night, I stopped by the News 9 website to see how they covered Kevin Stitt’s dumb State of the State address and got distracted by something even dumber – something called the Inn-Habit Tiny House Resort in Medicine Park is opening a Friend’s-themed coffee shop near Lake Lawtonka.
They're calling it Medicine Perk.
Well, at least that’s the plan before Warner Brothers lawyers reach out in a few weeks or so.
News 9’s Lisa Monahan and some dude gobbled down the story like Chandler and Rachel eating their neighbor’s cheesecake.
Check this out:
Listen, I’m not judging here.
This is a swell idea, and as a guy who owns an event company that regularly hosts Friends-themed trivia nights, I have no problem with other businesses exploiting the enduring popularity of Friends to make an easy buck. Hell, just by writing about the topic I’m guilty of doing it!
That being said…
I can see a Friend’s-themed coffee shop in New York or even Tulsa – you know, places that have a connection to the show – but opening one in a tiny house resort made of shipping containers outside of a wildlife refuge near Lawton seems a bit out of place. You'd think they’d be better off opening one that’s inspired by Gulliver’s Travels, The Hobbit, or Little People, Big World.
Like, I know Friend’s is popular and everything, but those ideas will probably bring out more people than a red couch in a shipping container.
Anyway, I think I was going to write something about News 9’s coverage of Stitt’s dumb speech but thankfully this Friend's story distracted me and I kind of forgot about it.
If you want to read a friendly story that helps our Governor mislead the public with half-truths, distortion, and dishonest propaganda, you can do so here.
