I hope everyone had a great week!
The soundtrack for this edition of my Friday news round-up is the newest track by PawPaw Rod. He's an OKC-based rapper who's making waves in the indie rap scene. His newish video features a lot of shots around OKC:
At the end of each week, I try to highlight some of the local news stories, tidbits, oddities and other things that made the TLO radar, but due to my laziness and lack of motivation, didn’t get their own article.
Here is my Friday News Roundup!
Oklahoma parents terrorize kids with Bigfoot costume...
I recently stumbled across this story from RKNTV.com. I guess some parents scared their kids when they hired bigfoot for a birthday party.
That's dangerous. With lawmakers pushing for a bigfoot hunting season, the guy in the costume is lucky he wasn't shot!

Dude flees from police on ATV...
I wish I was brave and stupid enough to lead police on a high-speed police chase in a 4-wheeler. It's a shame I don't do more drugs.
I guess my only question is why didn't he take the ATV off-road? That's the whole point of stealing an ATV, right? If you're going to stay on the road, steal a mini-van. Then again, going off-roading is probably more dangerous than leading police on a leisurely chase through the far north Oklahoma City backroads. He must be smarter than he looks.

Norman school board member apologies for stupid comment...
Earlier this week, Norman school board member Linda Sexton made some stupid comments while openly wondering why Governor Stitt won't declare a state of emergency and allow school districts to require masks to protect unvaccinated kids from the Delta variant of COVID-19.
Governor Stitt's She Troll used it as an opportunity to strike.
A school board member in Norman, Oklahoma said kids who don't wear masks to school could "commit murder."
— Carly Atchison (@CarlyAtch) August 10, 2021
We're now at the point where some people feel it's acceptable to suggest young children are murderers for not wearing a mask.
Let that sink in. pic.twitter.com/OUE4Gb2GWl
Fun fact, we're also at the point where some people feel it's acceptable to block school districts from implementing mask mandates to protect kids from catching Covid, and then spreading it to their classmates and families.
Let that sink in.
Naturally, the conservative outrage propaganda machine latched onto the comments:
Kids could 'commit murder' by not wearing masks in school, Oklahoma school board member sayshttps://t.co/Ka3QVqelrr
— Fox News (@FoxNews) August 10, 2021
For what it's worth, I can see why there's outrage over this. Whether they're wearing a mask or not, you can't blame kids for infecting and possibly killing other people. That falls on their parents and the alt-right propagandists who enable them.
The school board member later apologized.

Philadelphia burger place creates imposter Oklahoma onion burger...
One week into this month and you haven't had the Oklahoma Onion Butter Burger yet? It's loaded with two of our beef patties, American cheese, a horseradish sauce and thin sliced onions fried with melted butter, all on a Conshohocken Bakery potato bun. pic.twitter.com/c0IzU1tcAz
— Lucky's Last Chance (@LuckysManayunk) August 7, 2021
That looks delicious, and although I appreciate the nod to Oklahoma culture, it's the farthest thing from an Oklahoma onion burger. I contacted my old perverted roommate from Chickasha who may or may not own JW Grill, and according to him, the classic Oklahoma onion burger has meat, bread, onions, pickles, and mustard. That's it. This would be like Tucker's creating a Philly cheesesteak and using swiss cheese and garlic aioli on a brioche bun.

Here's another Chick-Fil-A mishap that Stitt should blame on Jo Biden...
Oklahoma City woman goes viral online for amazing 3D wedding cake inspired by Chick-fil-A https://t.co/Ysgeh201hw
— koconews (@koconews) August 13, 2021
Chick-fil-A isn't bad for fast food, but the obsession some people have with it is creepy. Either way, that's a pretty cool and life-like cake. I can taste the MSG from here! She should do Braum's next.

Chesapeake takes step to become Ponzi scheme again
Chesapeake Energy announced a $2.2 billion purchase Wednesday. Take a closer look at the deal: https://t.co/qE55Lt9Xat
— The Oklahoman (@TheOklahoman_) August 11, 2021
Uhm, how can a company that recently emerged from bankruptcy get a $2.2-billion bank loan to acquire another company? In the real world, they wouldn't even qualify for a car loan from Express Credit Auto!

Here's another article about Oklahoma becoming the "Wild West of Weed"
It seems like every six months or so some publication will write a semi-positive article about Oklahoma becoming the "Wild West of Weed." You can't blame them. We have more dispensaries and farms per capita than anywhere else in the world, and thanks to our lax, libertarian-style 420 laws, just about anyone can get a permit to grow their own product, sell it on the black market, and then use a business front to launder money.
Why Oklahoma has become the new “Wild West of weed” — and Colorado marijuana entrepreneurs are helping fuel the green rush: https://t.co/RcB1bO5VAa by @sam_tabachnik
— The Denver Post (@denverpost) August 9, 2021
I have mixed feelings about the weed industry in this state that I may harp on down the road. Either way, it's nice to see Oklahoma getting GOOD publicity on the national stage.
