I have to admit, I love the fact that James Lankford – an establishment conservative who has routinely placated and bent the knee to right-wing Christian Taliban extremists in his party just to win reelection – is now being challenged by that same maniacal wing of his own party.
It's truly delicious irony, and as I've mentioned in the past, is basically the modern-day political equivalent of Frankenstein.
Lankford helped create that right-wing monster and his career has benefited from it, but now that he and the rest of the GOP establishment have lost control of the demented beast, they've had to watch in horror as it marches out into the rural countryside, dead set on destroying them and everyone else in its path that doesn't buy into an authoritarian racist worldview or insane conspiracy theories.
Since I love that irony, I'm obviously a big fan of what's happening to his pro-insurrection, conspiracy theory spewing primary opponent Jackson Lahmeyer. In case you missed it, he's now having to deal with his own version of Frankenstein! Karma's a bitch, huh?
Earlier this month, Jackson shared the following photo on Instagram of his daughter at one of his kookie campaign rallies:
That's sweet. The best thing about toddlers is they still have no clue how weird, or in his case, demented their parents are. I know this first hand.
Overall, the photo seems pretty innocuous, but in this warped day and age, there are Q-ANON quacks out there claiming the photo is proof that Lahmeyer is a child sex trafficker. We know this because Lahmeyer had to issue a statement about it:
I'm not a big fan of Lahmeyer. He's an insufferable extremist who has no business representing a state in the Senate, but people trying to claim he's a pedophile because he shared a photo of his daughter wearing red shoes can go all-caps F*CK themselves.
That being said...
If you're issuing a statement denying that you're a pedophile, leave out the part that you've "Been in the ministry for years." That's not doing you any favors. It's almost as incriminating as saying you drive an ice cream truck or work in the Oklahoma legislature.
Also, when you represent and embody the ugly side of politics, you come across as a major hypocrite when you complain about the same ugly side of politics.
Seriously, it's funny how Lahmeyer only seems to care about refuting deranged lunatics when they come after him, but when his Q-Anon supporters peddle rumors online that Lankford is a pedophile because he led the Falls Creek Church Camp, you don't hear a peep from him. It's almost like Lahmayer's against the ugly side of politics when it's used against him, but totally okay if benefits him.
Anyway, we're still a good year or so away from the primaries, so it will be interesting to see what other bizarre, baseless claims about our two insufferable GOP candidates for Senate make the rounds. Whatever they are, it will continue to be fun to watch.
