Oklahoma GOP elects famed Islamophobic right wing nutjob as new party chair…

Congratulations are in order for former Oklahoma lawmaker / US Flag wearer John Bennett!

Over the weekend, the Oklahoma GOP elected him – a famed right-wing Islamaphobic bigot from rural Oklahoma who reflects the party's extremist views and anti-American values – as their state party chair.

In his new role, Bennett will oversee the party's continued turn towards the alt-right, and help guarantee that only the finest white gun-owning Christians with racist leanings who want to overturn federal election results run for public office.

Even by Oklahoma GOP standards, this is a bit embarrassing. Couldn't they have found a less-open racist to run the state party? You know, someone who won't wear their bigotry on their sleeve like it's an American flag? It already makes me long for the days when Pam Pollard ran the party, and openly mused about a better world where public schools were abolished so mom could stay home and teach from the Bible...

Although it sucks on a human level to see a guy like Bennett embarrass the people in our state who aren't right-wing racist morons, as an Internet publisher and sucker for nostalgia, it will be nice to have Bennett back on the scene delivering controversial content for us to write about. Give the man credit – he always delivered on that front when he was a lawmaker.

Yep, that's the guy the Oklahoma GOP elected to lead their party. With a resume like that, I'm honestly surprised other Republicans had the nerve to challenge him. What were they thinking? That would be like volunteering to play Alabama to open the football season. You're going to get crushed!

Due to Bennett's long history of Islamaphobia, you'd think the Chamber of Commerce-style GOP folks who probably agree with him but don't want to risk being labeled a bigot would keep their distance. If so, that would be a stupid thing to think:

Yep, Bennett's also a "reverend" and today's Oklahoma Senate Chaplain. Based on all the things he's said and written over the years, hopefully someone puts him in touch with the Psychologist of the Day.
