Warning: If you plan on shopping in Edmond this weekend, you may want to consult with copyright attorney who specializes in copyright law.
In case you haven't heard, Edmond Active – a magazine about all the boring white things to do in Edmond – warned its followers on Twitter and Instagram last night to be extra-cautious when using the #ShopEdmond hashtag:
Yep. That's real. Not only does Edmond Active own the #ShopEdmond hashtag, but they also have paying advertisers. Who would have thunk it?!
Naturally, social media trolls in the OKC universe didn't respond all that well to a fledgling magazine trying to exert ownership and control over a generic two-word hashtag that nobody would probably use in the first place. Edmond Active is now feeling the full brunt of the Streisand Effect. Since the social media warning went out late last night, #ShopEdmond is the number one trend on OKC Twitter and is being mocked, ridiculed and chastised by just about everyone.
Here are some of my favorite tweets:

Anyway, you can hope on Twitter or Instagram to view social media posts lampooning #ShopEdmond. The thing is such a big deal that Brianna "Even Flow" Bailey even covered it for "the state's most trusted news."
