We have a little update to pass along about the big Arby’s spit case that’s salivating headlines in the Sooner State!
Last week, KJRH’s Erin Christy – the reporter who’s been all over this story like spit on a sandwich – aired an exclusive interview with accused loogie bandit Amanda Hendricks.
In the interview, Amanda seemed fine admitting she spit in the food, but strongly denied passing along the herpes simplex virus type 1 – the common form of herpes that causes cold sores, fever blisters, or whatever you want to call those oozy, scabby lesions that form around an infected mouth.
Via KJRH:
When asked directly whether she spit in Church's food, Hendricks did not deny it.
"OK, accountability. Me, wanting to grow. Yes, I did. Low, low; it was disgusting," Hendricks said.
Hendricks also addressed what she wants the public to know.
"That it was a mistake. It's the way I conducted myself. It was poorly, but it isn't who I am. I'm not my mistakes. Should have been handled very differently. It's like this – because I spit in the food. It's blown out of proportion on their end, but at the end of the day, we're here, because of me," Hendricks said.
Yeah, I hate to break it to Amanda, but all it takes is one quick Google search to learn that you are, in fact, your mistakes:
Seriously, that story’s going to follow her around longer than a bout of extreme diarrhea caused by Arby’s. Her career in fast food is effectively ruined, or at least it should be.
Hendricks says she is accountable for her actions, but is adamant she did not give Church herpes. She sent 2 News Oklahoma negative herpes test results purportedly from McCurtain Memorial Hospital, taken on June 22…
"My spit's not poison. It just blew out of proportion. And apparently, me and her both need prayed for. But yeah, it's embarrassing. Very embarrassing," Hendricks said.
Yeah, that’s right. The whole thing is being blown out of proportion. Easy for her to say. Then again, maybe she has a point. Out of all the things you can put in your mouth from Arby’s, I’d say human saliva is pretty low on the list of things that can actually hurt you.
Anyway, whether she passed along herpes or not, I guess the big question here is why she admitted to all this in a TV interview. I bet that literally made her lawyer spit coffee out of his mouth:
Hendricks, who has a prior criminal record related to theft and substance abuse, is hoping the test results and a subsequent blood test will help her chances at a reduced charge.
Here in Oklahoma, we’re well known for letting rapists and drunk drivers walk free, so I have no clue what the punishment is for spitting in people’s food. If she ends up in prison, just keep her out of the kitchen.
Anyway, I hope this serves as a friendly reminder to everyone working in the service industry that no matter how much “history” you have with a customer, you probably shouldn’t spit in their food. Not only is it gross, disgusting and potentially infectious, but apparently, it can also get you interviewed on local TV trying to convince everyone your spit isn’t poison.
Stay with The Lost Ogle. We’ll keep you advised.
