Last year, I took a little trip to Kimie’s Store on S. Portland and found the best barbecue on this side of the Red River. It was a swift and sure induction into the cult of convenience-store cuisine.
I’ve been hunting for the next hidden gem ever since.
That search led me to a Midwest City smoke shop with an NYC deli—and a sandwich so damn delicious I drove all the way back the very next day.
Welcome to the Pady C Store, 8301 NE 10th St. in Midwest City, where they apparently have the best Chopped Cheese sandwiches in the state. This humble New York bodega sandwich basically packs a cheeseburger’s greasy glory into a deli roll. I'd had them a few times in New York, but I was desperate to try this Oklahoma take on the sandwich.
Much like Kimie’s, it’s quite the drive to Pady’s—even longer if you miss it and have to turn around, like I did. With the refurbished outside casing of an old 7-Eleven, Pady’s announces its “smoke shop” status and “NYC Deli” pedigree on one eye-popping sign.
