School’s been back in session for barely a month, and an Oklahoma educator has already been arrested for doing something spectacularly stupid.
In case you missed it, Pamela Couch-Bevis – the principal of Miami High School in far northeastern Oklahoma – was arrested yesterday and charged with one count of acts resulting in gross injury/outraging public decency after she gave a student a cookie box containing a dildo.
Here’s her mug shot:
Joplin’s KSN 16 has a pretty funny breakdown of the incident. It started when four boys went to the principal’s office to pick up the school mascot costume – Auggie Doggie.
Apparently, the principal had a surprise waiting for them:
On Aug. 25, four boys went to Bevis’s office to retrieve the school’s mascot costume for an upcoming football game, according to an arrest affidavit.
Bevis allegedly provided them with an empty Nabisco assorted cookie snack box, full of purple and pink tissue paper that contained the sex toy, and allegedly instructed one of the students to “take one” from the snack box.
Thinking he was reaching for a cookie, the boy reached inside the box and pulled out the sex toy, the affidavit states.
The student put the sex toy back into the box and returned it to Bevis, the affidavit states…
You know how local TV stations will sometimes partner with schools to surprise a deserving teacher with money, classroom supplies or a field trip to the zoo?
Well, maybe we should team up with Patricia’s to do the same thing!
Wouldn’t that be a nice way to give back? We’ll show up with a camera crew and surprise a teacher with a big bag of sex toys for the classroom. Send your nomination to the TLO Tip Line today!
Here’s more:
When confronted about the incident, Bevis told investigators she made “a poor choice in making a joke.”
Police say Bevis said that, as she was retrieving the mascot costume from a closet, she handed one of the students the box and told him he couldn’t have what was in the snack box, prompting the student to ask what was in the box, so she told him to take a look, the affidavit states.
Yep, that’s right. The whole thing was just “a poor choice in making a joke.” I guess that excuse makes sense. Who among us hasn’t reached into the closet for a mascot costume, spotted a confiscated dildo in an old cookie box and thought, “This will really kill it with the football team?”
Then again, the principal also chalked the whole thing up to a big accident:
Bevis told investigators the incident wasn’t intentional and the whole ordeal lasted less than five minutes,
Bevis couldn’t explain why the sex toy wasn’t discarded when she found it. Still, she did tell investigators she “didn’t keep it on purpose” and “that there was never any intent to do anything with it, especially with a student.”
Later, Bevis said she thought about using it as a white elephant gift; the affidavit states that’s why it was in the box.
Yikes. If a confiscated dildo is her contribution to the staff white elephant exchange, I’d really like to see what Pamela brings to Secret Santa!
“Oh wow! A new supersonic vibrator! Thanks, Pam!”
Anyway, you can read more about the incident over at KSN, or dig through the whole arrest affidavit over at OSCN.
