As a person who has consumed mass quantities of Mexican food on the whole for around 15 years as a (somewhat) well-paid job, I have always been suspicious of non-Mexican Mexican restaurants and their borderline ilk.
Usually, I try to review mostly “authentic” places, trying not to prop up spots that are as counterfeit as a Taco Bell extra value meal. That being said, one of the better non-Mexican Mexican dives is Del City’s venerable Mid-Del Taco, 4320 SE 15th.
While I had reviewed it quite a few years ago and I do remember liking it, Patrick asked me to reevaluate it recently. Of course, I had no problem braving the stolid Del City atmosphere to give them a second college vo-tech try and… it’s still an alright place for an other-than-Mexican taco craving.
Last weekend, I stopped in for a late lunch. Now, this section of Del City is the sleepiest part of town—the auto parts shops, thrift stores, and public library keeping pace with the area—with Mid-Del Taco being the buzziest eatery in this part, and customers kept a solid queue the whole time we were there.
