Markwayne Mullin is Worried About the Wrong People Giving Birth

7:38 AM EDT on September 10, 2026

Is it even a day in the great state of Oklahoma if an elected official isn’t completely showing their ass?

In case you missed it, Markwayne Mullin – Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security and the embodiment of every drunk dude at the Buffalo Wild Wings bar on UFC Fight Night who is pretty sure he could totally take those fighters – is very concerned about “birth tourism.”

What is birth tourism, you ask? Well, it’s when a pregnant person comes to the U.S. late in their last trimester, and has a baby here, thus giving the baby birthright citizenship.

This isn’t a huge issue, however, and the Center for Immigration Studies estimates that birth tourism accounts for only 1% of births in America. It's a pretty stupid thing for Marcuswayne to focus on, especially when the birth situation in his home state is actually an issue.

Not one to be deterred by facts, logic or even consensus reality, Mullin is on a crusade to prevent birth tourism from happening. According to an interview cited on Huffpost.com:

“Maybe you shouldn’t come into the country if you are late in your third term. We don’t allow sick individuals to come here if they are coming from an area that could possibly, come in, that could spread a disease. So there is precedent for us to look into saying it’s not safe for you to travel,” he said.

Mullin then shared a personal anecdote, seemingly attempting to justify the possible restrictions from a medical standpoint.

“I know my grandson was just recently born and her OBGYN didn’t want her flying late into her third trimester,” Mullin said while seeming to forget people can travel to the U.S. without flying.
