As the guy who dreamed up Ogle Madness – the largest Oklahoma Celebrity Tournament in recorded history – I’d probably consider myself one of the world’s foremost experts on famous people from the Sooner State, especially those who achieved fame within the last 30 or 40 years.
Despite that impressive distinction, The Oklahoman for some reason didn’t consult me when compiling a massive special feature built around the presumptive question of why Oklahoma, despite its small size, produces an abnormally high number of celebrities.
They were heavily promoting it on social media over the weekend:
It’s a shame The Oklahoman didn’t reach out to me for help, because I probably would have offered a couple of important suggestions.
First, I’d tone down the whole claim that Oklahoma produces an abnormally high number of famous people. Every state has its famous actors, musicians and other celebrities. Unless someone has actually defined and counted celebrities by state and adjusted for population, they’re basically treating a prideful hunch as a substantiated fact.
