Although we probably should, we don’t cover a lot of national politics here at TLO.
As a result, we’ve never had much reason to write about Mark Robinson – the former North Carolina lieutenant governor whose political résumé reads like a Ryan Walters wet dream, including everything from denying the Holocaust and defending slavery to calling LGBTQ people “filth” and referring to himself as a “Black Nazi" on online porn sites.
Well, thanks to the Oklahoma County GOP, we finally have an excuse to write about him!
Last Thursday, Robinson was the guest of honor at the organization’s Lincoln Reagan Dinner – an annual event the group apparently puts on to make Lincoln and Reagan roll over in their graves.
Seriously, out of all the politicians, pundits and washed-up Fox News contributors available on the right-wing dinner circuit, they went with – checks notes – the guy whose campaign for North Carolina governor imploded after CNN shared his deranged posts on a pornography message board.
I guess we shouldn’t be surprised. Once Oklahoma Republicans discovered there was a pro-slavery Black guy out there who called himself a Nazi, they probably couldn’t resist booking him!
I mean, at least he's not a traitor and felon...
The Robinson dinner was apparently put together by the people behind Little Mike’s Hamburgers – Oklahoma City’s premier destination for overcooked hamburgers and laminated right-wing conspiracy theories.
Tickets cost $100, which seems a little steep to listen to Mark Robinson talk. For that price, you could eat at Little Mike’s every day for a week and still have enough money left over to buy a VPN!
Among the attendees was State Auditor – and soon-to-be State Treasurer – Cyndi Byrd. I guess she’s trying to push back against her reputation as one of the only Oklahoma politicians with ethics, dignity and basic judgment.
Seriously, what is Cyndi doing here? Over the years, she’s proven to be one of the only local GOP figures with actual ethics and character, and now she’s happily posing for photos with a disgraced, porn-obsessed former politician who allegedly called himself a “Black Nazi." Is she trying to toughen up her image? Win over the incel vote? Make the rest of Oklahoma’s Republican Party feel more comfortable around her? We need answers!
