There's some big stuff happening this weekend in Oklahoma City, including a cult favorite concert and a gladiatorial gala making its comeback after a decade away.
Here are a few good or bad reasons to get out and about this weekend...
UFC Fight Night: Du Plessis vs Usman
Sat., July 18 | 4PM | Paycom Center
Watching two handsome, sweaty men go at it is one thing – violence is another. And while I tend to avoid blood sports involving humans or animals, this is undeniably a big deal for OKC. Du Plessis vs Usman will be the first UFC Fight Night ever at Paycom Center – and the first in the city in almost a decade. If that’s your sort of thing, tickets range from $228 to $4,276.

OKC Horror Con
All weekend | Various times | Delta Hotels Midwest City
When I saw this billed as Oklahoma’s premier horror convention, all I thought was good god, there are others? But OKC Horror Con actually has an impressive roster of surprisingly normal celebrities and events – more hot vampire than killer clown. Marisa has the guide:

Wheeler Summer Concert
Fri., July 17 | 7PM | Wheeler District Ferris Wheel
Summer is still young enough for an evening concert on the lawn to be comfortable – the only catch is this one is in Wheeler District, which can be uncomfortable. The dystopian, 3D-printed life and all.
This free concert features local acts Abbigale Dawn and Limp Wizardz along with Major Good, a bold band unbothered by conventional spelling.
If you can escape the orbit of food trucks and beer, the Wheeler farmers market runs Friday ‘til 9 p.m. and will be brimming with fresh produce and cool local sundries. Bring blankets, kids and dogs – you know the drill.

Sun Kil Moon
Sun., July 19 | 8PM | Tower Theatre
This is an easy yes for fans of raw songwriting that breaks all the rules crooned over hypnotic guitar that does the same. It felt wrong to distill Sun Kil Moon to a single line, but that’s my best terrible try.
Committing to a choice of reserved seats at Tower when I’m accustomed to the anarchy of GA-Floor shows gave me grievous anxiety – good luck sorting those ticket options!
