In case you’re looking for a good reason not to vote for Mike Mazzei in the Oklahoma Gubernatorial runoff, Kevin Stitt is here to help!
Last week, while apparently making a stop in the Lawton area, Oklahoma’s term-limited governor told KSWO that he’s officially endorsing Mike Mazzei – the former state senator, financial planner and Tres Savage antagonist – to serve as his replacement.
Via KSWO:
“I was going to wait until the runoff just to let the process work,” Stitt said. “But Mike Mazzei is the guy that I think should be the next governor. And he is a little goofy, but he’s so smart; he’s an accountant type. And he’s served in my cabinet as my budget secretary. We want a pro-business governor in there to take the lead for the next four years.”
Kevin Stitt and Gentner Drummond are sworn political enemies, so I think just about everyone with an informed, functioning brain knew Stitt would eventually throw his support behind Mazzei. Seriously, Stitt backing Drummond would be like Ryan Walters endorsing religious tolerance. It’s never going to happen.
That being said, was it really necessary for Stitt to describe Mazzei as “a little goofy?”
I mean, I don’t disagree with the description.
Based on what I’ve seen of Mazzei on the campaign trail, a few other words that could work are “weird,” “awkward” and “severely medicated,” but “a little goofy” is the phrase you'd use to describe a friend after his second edible, not a future governor! It makes you wonder if Stitt knows something the rest of us don’t.
Anyway, for some reason – probably Stitt’s lukewarm favorability, general stench of failure and liberal use of the word “goofy” – Mazzei has pretty much ignored the endorsement.
Instead, he’s still playing up the one endorsement on the race that actually matters:
President Trump understands what is at stake in Oklahoma.

We do not need more career politicians who talk conservative when it is convenient.
We need a true Republican fighter who will secure our future, defend our values, and put Oklahoma families first.
