Friendly reminder – Oklahoma isn’t the only state trying to turn public schools into taxpayer-funded Sunday school!
Last week, the Texas State Board of Education approved a new mandatory reading list for its 5 million K-12 public school students.
The list includes plenty of great works of literature, but since we also live in a time where right-wing Christian nationalists are actively tearing down the sacred wall between church and state, it also includes a greatest-hits collection of Biblical myths.

Not surprisingly, the news that Texas was going to force ancient religious myths on public school students was celebrated by famed Biblical indoctrination enthusiast Ryan Walters.
Even though his Oklahoma Bible mandate was ruled unconstitutional, the infamous former state public school superintendent praised Texas for following his lead:
Texas just followed Oklahoma's lead and brought the Bible into the classroom. More than 5 million students will now read Scripture as part of their education.

The teachers unions and the radical left are furious. Good. The Bible is foundational to America's history.
I rarely laud the religious indoctrination of public school students, but you have to admit it’s kind of cool to see Texas finally following Oklahoma’s lead on something related to public education!
I wonder what’s next?
Using Oklahoma as a guide to lower teacher pay, lower test scores and run off every sane person with an education degree?
In addition to tweeting about the news, Ryan got out his oldest webcam out from the closet and appeared on some English TV channel to discuss the latest development in America’s ongoing war to replace public education with Vacation Bible School.
Right off the bat, it was vintage RW. He attacked teacher unions, “wokes” and other imaginary boogeymen of the left to justify forcing religion on students:
'We have got to get the bible back into classrooms!'

I’m not going to lie, I still kind of miss that guy, his logical fallacies and especially the nudie movies he’d play during state school board meetings. Although it was good for public education, the dude was a pageview outrage machine, and I still can’t believe – or forgive him – for quitting on us to waste away in the right-wing Christian media void.
Oh well, at least he and Katie gave us something fun to write about with their divorce:
Anyway, because we have a hard time saying goodbye to things that worked, we’ll continue following Ryan on social media to get his thoughts on the Christian nationalist indoctrination news of the day.
Stay with The Lost Ogle. We’ll keep you advised.
