Weekend Radar: What to Do in OKC This Weekend

It’s festival season in OKC! If you want to live in a cool city and you’re not going to move, consider it your civic duty to get out of the house and enjoy as many as you can.

This is Oklahoma City's especially eclectic festival lineup…

PrideFest
Fri., June 26-Sun., June 28 | Scissortail Park

Oklahoma's largest Pride celebration sashays to Scissortail Park for three days of live entertainment, food, drink and revelry – culminating in the annual Pride Parade through downtown on Sunday. I love that it’s on Sunday.

Bob the Drag Queen and Tacey headline this year’s PrideFest, with Joy Oladokun and Oklahoma’s own Sam Crain (new song alert!) rounding out a bill that serves up drag, pop, soul, folk and Americana. Check out the festival schedule for the full lineup.

OKC Lowrider Festival + Parade
Sat., June 27 | 1-7PM | Farmers Market

If car culture is more your speed, you might enjoy cruising over to the Farmers Market on Saturday for an afternoon of lowriders, custom cars, live music, food vendors and cultural performances. The festival wraps with a signature parade that rolls out at 6PM. I’m not sure what everyone will be doing for the five hours before the parade, but that’s the part you don’t wanna miss.

-

Puerto Rican Festival
Fri., June 26 | 6-10PM | West Village (downtown)

The community puts a lot of love into this block party, and it shows. On Friday night, the Puerto Rican Festival brings live music, dancing, cultural performances and traditional Puerto Rican food to downtown's West Village. Now in its third year, the festival celebrates Puerto Rican culture and heritage – annexation and colonial limbo be damned.

Dirty Red & The Soul Shakers LIVE @ Blues & BBQ Festival
Fri., June 26 | Bricktown Canal

This one is about music – blues in particular. And also meat – BBQ in particular. Bricktown’s annual blues festival returns for two days and nights, and you can catch Dirty Red & The Soul Shakers headlining the opening night concert on Friday. It’s located on the canal in Bricktown – you couldn’t miss it if you tried. Check the schedule for details and opening acts.

P.S.A. – Last call for Loaded Bowl

This is a public service announcement for the stoners and vegans out there whose lives are about to change: The iconic and beloved Loaded Bowl is closing forever, and Saturday is the last day. I'm salty about having to change my imaginary death row last meal order, but that hasn’t stopped me from savoring a monthlong goodbye. Last call, OKC...
