Unless it’s meth, I try to avoid making sweeping judgments about drugs I haven’t tried, so I try not to be too high-and-mighty about kratom.
I know some people who have made a lot of poor life decisions swear by its benefits, and if it works for them, great. That being said, any drug that’s primarily sold in run-down gas stations, smoke shops and flea markets is always going to be a hard pass for me.
But if you like kratom and want to use it, feel free. In fact, maybe even do what Marcuswayne Mullin did and get into the kratom-selling business! That way you can make money on your vice!
In case you missed it, The New York Times published an in-depth report about an Oklahoma kratom empire built by a disgraced former oil overlord with the help of Marcuswayne.
The basic gist is that the Tulsa-area company behind Feel Free – those little kratom shots sold at bodegas, gas stations and smoke shops all over the country – has been working to shape federal kratom policy in its favor, while Mullin, who disclosed owning up to $1 million in the company, apparently helped push the cause in D.C.

Yeah, that’s not a surprise.
If you were going to pick one Trump official to push, promote and profit from gas station pharmaceuticals, it would obviously be Marcuswayne Mullin – the white-trash grifter plumber from Oklahoma. He’s always looked and talked like the type of guy who has a large selection of weight-loss, energy and “male vitality” pills in the glove box of a lifted truck, right?
And you know what? Good for Markwayne.
As his skyrocketing net worth and suspiciously well-timed stock picks have shown, we all know he likes to grift and use his office and power for personal financial gain, so it’s nice to see him sticking with an already shady industry instead of a public institution like education, healthcare or veterans’ services.
I think that's a positive.
Plus, kratom is totally safe and legit. Its users aren’t simply trading one addictive treatment for another, and there are no negative consequences attached to it… right?
Medical Examiner’s Office Warns Of Increase In Kratom Detected In Overdose Deaths
The Oklahoma Office of the Chief Medical Examiner says it is seeing an increase in kratom and mitragynine alkaloids detected in fatal overdose cases and issued an alert this week.
Between January of last year and May of this year, the state’s toxicology lab saw 58 death cases in which one or more mitragynine-related substances were detected in a biological sample…
Okay, so kratom-related substances were detected in 58 fatal overdose cases. Big deal. Who cares about woke liberal stuff like toxicology reports, addiction warnings and dead Oklahomans when there’s money to be made, says the little gas-station pharmacist inside Markwayne’s brain, probably.
Anyway, you can read more about Markwayne’s grift, the disgraced Oklahoma oil overlord at the center of it, and the dangers of kratom via this New York Times gift link. It’s an eye-opening read, and serves as another simple reminder that our former senator has never met a shady industry, business opportunity or conflict of interest he couldn’t somehow make even grosser.
Stay with The Lost Ogle. We’ll keep you advised.
