Weekend Radar: What to Do in OKC This Weekend

After the Game 7 gut-punch, it feels like this crestfallen city could use a dopamine boost. Mercifully, Pride Month arrived with impeccable timing, and it looks like there's a happy little weekend in store.

Here are a few bright Oklahoma City happenings to check out this weekend.

First Friday / The Youth Art Show
Fri., June 5 | 6-9PM | Flora Bodega

If you’re in the Paseo this evening for the First Friday Gallery Walk and could use a little hope for the future of mankind, pop over to Flora Bodega’s special event, The Youth Art Show. A collab with Classen SAS, the event will showcase the works of young local artists, including neighborhood kids.

Pro tip: Flora’s eclectically curated selection of local-artist-made gifts, jewelry, wearables and wine makes it a great place to take out-of-towners – whether they’re visiting from out of state or north of 63rd St.

Pride on 39th
All weekend | 39th Street District

On Friday the city's OG of LGBTQ+ culture, OKC Pride, is kicking off its 39th epic annual Pride on 39th celebration. For three glorious days, the Gayborhood will be a glitter ball of local DJs, live music, drag performances and queer shenanigans – culminating in the Pride Parade on Sunday at 6PM.

Sadly, Jim Roth is not the grand marshal this year, but that’s no reason to stay home and sulk.

Scissortail Park Summer Concert: Summer of Soul
Sat., June 6 | 8PM | Scissortail Park

If it’s not raining Saturday night, grab a blanket and a charcuterie picnic basket and head to Scissortail Park for a free summer concert featuring funk, soul and R&B from Charlie Redd and the Full Flava Kings, J Stew/Nev and other local performers.

Expect the feeling of a chill, citywide family reunion: lots of dancing, eating, imbibing and general revelry. You can bring your own coolers and beverages – including beer and wine – but cans and boxes only, no glass.

-

Wick’d 2 at The Boom
Sat., June 6 | 7PM | The Boom

How about a bawdy Broadway spoof to kick off Pride Month with sass, spectacle and a dash of debauchery! You can catch the final performance of The Boom’s Wick’d 2 run – a hilarious dinner theatre drag parody of the hit musical – on Saturday night.

Pro Tip: You can’t just roll in at showtime. Dinner service starts at 6PM, and butts must be in seats by 6:45PM for the 7PM curtain-rise. Tickets are $20.
