Oklahoma City is in full festival season, and we've got a few for you this weekend – covering a diverse swath of culture – plus an epic excuse to burn a whole day in a dark theater without the need for bail money.
Here's some stuff worth your time this weekend...

Calderón Dance Festival
Sat., May 16 | 12–8PM | Myriad Botanical Gardens
This is my top pick for a weekend dopamine boost – for the vibrant colors, the music, the community, the food, and for how good it feels to move your body!
Shimmy to Myriad Gardens on Saturday for a free citywide celebration of dance, culture, and the legacy of Shannon Calderón. Expect stunning performances, free classes, vendors, live music, and dance traditions from around the world taking over the gardens that day.
-

Turkish Food and Art Festival
Sat., May 16 | 11AM–8PM | 4444 N. Classen Blvd.
You gotta love festival season! Here's another one on Saturday, and this one involves hummus: Rain Drop Turkish House will bring an experience of Turkey to the community with a free, all-day festival. Expect traditional food, art, live music, vendors, and cultural experiences for the whole fam.
-

Church of the Open Arms UCC Native Art Market & Indian Taco Sale
Sat., May 16 | 11AM–6PM | 3131 N. Penn
This isn't really a festival, but Louis Fowler thinks maybe it should be. He swears by the Pow-Wow Burger and the kind souls who craft them. This Indigenous pop-up – which only happens once a month – is turning out more than Indian Tacos, and I’m told it’s worth planning a Saturday around. Stroll the art market after.

Sátántangó – Remembering Béla Tarr
Sat., May 16 | 2:30PM | Oklahoma City Museum of Art
Color me impressed by anyone who has the attention span to soak up this 7.5-hour "darkly funny" Hungarian epic with English subtitles (and two intermissions). Will people just voluntarily skip eating and naps that day? In addition to pathological film nerds, this is a stellar pick for anyone avoiding friends or family this weekend.

If you're getting up to something fun, weird, questionably wholesome, or wildly inappropriate in OKC this weekend, tell us about it in the comments.
