Here’s a fun fact for you.
Did you know that despite the ability of YouTube, podcasts and social media to deliver an instantaneous and infinite amount of sports news, highlights and commentary on a 24/7 on-demand basis, some local TV news channels still have sports departments?
I was reminded of this yesterday when Hannah Hoover – the picturesque backup sports anchor at KOCO Channel 5 that you’d sometimes see in promo spots during the Thunder playoff run – announced she is leaving the OKC ABC affiliate to pursue a career as a sideline reporter.
We know this because she and her boss, Bryan Keating, slightly uncomfortably discussed her departure on the KOCO Sunday night sports show “Crashing The Boards.”
For the final time in Oklahoma City, my good friend @HannahKOCO5 signs off at KOCO. From the NBA Finals, to the CFB Playoff, and everything in between...we had a heck of a run. Cheers to you Miss Hoover! pic.twitter.com/pvLeeuE9VH

I don’t know about you, but did anyone else read a little emotional complexity in that sign-off?
From the weird photo slideshow in the background that documented their travels to the dramatic way Bryan recounted how he would, in fact, miss her, I was almost expecting him to get down on one knee and propose. I’m glad he didn’t, because it would have been awkward to see her tell him she just wants to stay friends!
Anyway, we wish Hannah all the best of luck as a sideline reporter. Just like OKC media alums Kelly Krull and Sierra Santos, maybe we’ll see her on a Chicagoland baseball broadcast someday.
Stay with The Lost Ogle. We’ll keep you advised.
