Until a wet and wily traveling circus turned up, I was concerned things were looking a little too sparkly and wholesome in Oklahoma City!
Thankfully, a little digging found just enough offbeat fun to round out the weekend.

Buchanan’s OKC Flea Market – Upscale Antiques & Vintage
Sat. Mar. 7, Sun. Mar. 8 | Hours vary | OK State Fair Park (Modern Living Building)
This is about the thrill of the hunt and the promise of classic fair food concessions on the way out! Buchanan's is about as upscale as a fairgrounds collectibles market can be, and top dealers are coming from across the country to hawk their treasures. Finding that one special thing can be a little Indiana Jones and the Fairgrounds of Doom, so go early on Saturday if you’re serious.

Cirque Italia: Water Circus Metropolis
All weekend | Multiple showtimes | Sooner Mall
I can't tell if this weird, wet, traveling circus is more for kids or grownups, but the promotional stuff says one child gets in free per paying adult. So at the very least, you have plausible deniability here.
If you get stuck in traffic on I-35, you could always pull over for a questionable meal at Pickle's! I've always wondered who eats there. Is it like Hooters, but for objectifying men?

A Beautiful Noise – The Neil Diamond Musical
All weekend | Showtimes vary | Civic Center Music Hall
Sorry, Neil won’t be there – but his music and myth will! I haven’t yet seen A Beautiful Noise, but while I was writing this, a group text broke out about the show. “You will not be disappointed!” wrote a friend who saw it in NYC and is going again this weekend. I certainly will be disappointed if there isn’t at least one sad singalong.

Over the Painbow – Roller Derby Mash Up
Sun. Mar. 8 | 2PM | OKC Farmers Public Market
I admit the thing I like best about roller derby is the punk-burlesque aesthetic. But if you can get over the fear of seeing a compound fracture happen in real time, this could be a fun thing to get up to on Sunday.
Local roller derby skaters from across Oklahoma are meeting at the Farmers Market for a full-contact mashup. Expect a rowdy, possibly bloody but still fun afternoon of sport. Kids under 12 are free, so we’re calling this family-friendly.
