Markturd Mullin Won’t Be Our Senator Anymore! Awesome! Yay!

Before I close the laptop for the day, I wanted to acknowledge the big news that has everyone in the Oklahoma and national politosphere talking.

Earlier today – right as my City Bites baked potato arrived from DoorDash – Donald Trump announced that Kristi Noem is out as Secretary of Homeland Security and will be replaced at the end of the month by our very own Marcuswayne Mullin.

That’s amazing on a couple of levels.

First of all, it means Marcuswayne – one of the dumbest humans to ever become a senator, much less a Cabinet Secretary – will no longer represent Oklahoma in the U.S. Senate. Incredible, right? Sure, he’ll probably be replaced by someone nearly as right-wing, but at least there’s a chance we’ll get a senator who can pronounce basic words and doesn’t challenge people to fistfights during committee hearings.

The other great part about this is we’ll get to watch Marcuswayne flounder in the depths of the national MAGA swamp. If you thought his attempt to be the face of the GOP during the Iraq… errr… Iran war under President Hegseth… errr… Trump was embarrassing, just wait until he has to go on TV and defend ICE raids, deportations, and whatever other chaos the administration cooks up next.

Nothing good ever works out for Trump’s henchmen, and I don’t see Markwayne being the exception. I give him about the same life expectancy in Washington as Scott Pruitt’s ethics record.

Obviously, the main question around here is what happens next with the Senate seat.

According to the internet – always a reliable legal authority – Kevin Stitt will get to appoint a temporary replacement until a special election determines the new senator, but whoever he appoints isn’t allowed to run for the seat in the election. Therefore, he can’t resign and then have someone appoint him.

Either way, some rumor mongers are already speculating that Stitt will try to run, but I’m not so sure. His pivot to the moderate middle over the past month seems to hint at a different aspiration than U.S. senator.

Anyway, we’ll have plenty of time to speculate about all that. Until then, stay with The Lost Ogle. We’ll keep you advised.
