Weekend Radar: What to Do in OKC This Weekend

I can't tell if Oklahoma City is being super weird this weekend or if I'm projecting. Either way, the adventure is yours to choose.

Here’s a look at a few standout happenings around town.

Los Ángeles Azules – Cumbias Sin Fronteras US Tour
Sat. 8PM | The Criterion (Bricktown)

One of the biggest acts in Latin music history is coming to town Saturday: Los Ángeles Azules is a multi-generational family band playing cumbia sonidera together since 1976! They're the first traditional cumbia act ever to perform at Coachella, and you get to see them in OKC. Sure, it’s at The Criterion, but go anyway.

Taylor Swift Drag Brunch Tour
Sat. 12 Noon | The Boom (Gayborhood)

If it’s even possible for The Boom’s usual Sunday brunch vibes to get campier, this special Saturday version promises just that. Expect a glitter-heavy, era-spanning Taylor tribute with boundless booze and passable food.

Proceeds benefit the Great Plains Rodeo Association, which supports the LGBTQ+ rodeo circuit – a very real and rowdy thing. Giddyup!

-

The Importance of Being Earnest – Oklahoma Shakespeare in the Park
Fri., Sat. 8PM | Sun. 2PM | 2920 Paseo (Paseo, obvs)

It’s Oscar Wilde, what else to say? Don’t let the name fool you – this Oklahoma Shakespeare in the Park performance is happening indoors at their Paseo venue (so leave the picnic basket and crudités at home). Expect Wilde’s famous wit in a show full of bad decisions, good manners and people vying and lying for love.

-

Micro Maidens – Dwarf Dancers Tour
Sat. 8PM | OKC Farmers Public Market

I love how you can show up at the Farmers Market for a wholesome Saturday morning of fresh produce and local treats and return the same night for the world's only little-person burlesque show! It's OKC at its weirdest. All the lady dancers are 4’12” or shorter, and every male ogler will confidently report being 5’11” or taller. Hehe.
