After years of rumors, speculation, and misinformation, it looks like Buc-ee's may finally be headed to OKC.
"Really, Patrick? Another Buc-ee's-to-Oklahoma rumor?"
Yes, I know these rumors have been flying around for years like a fly in a Love's bathroom, but this time, it looks like it might actually happen.
Earlier today, The Oklahoman and OKC Talk both reported that Buc-ee's is apparently looking to build a new location off a remote interstate stretch in far west OKC and — naturally — wants the public to help pay for it.
Via a two-byline article in The Oklahoman:
Joanna McSpadden, Oklahoma City's economic development program manager, confirmed to The Oklahoman on Feb. 11 that Buc-ee's is in discussions with the city on potentially building a location in OKC…
As of Feb. 11, 2026, there are no formally announced plans for the company to open a location in Oklahoma. However, city officials told The Oklahoman Tuesday morning that Buc-ee's is in conversation with the city on potentially using economic incentives to build a location in Oklahoma City.
Unless I wrote it, I'm always skeptical of rumor-forward news reports that use phrases like "in discussions" or "potentially," but with the city going on record here, that sounds at least somewhat promising.
Sure, I won't believe it until I'm hit in the head by a Beaver Nugget driving down I-40, but it sure beats the unsubstantiated social media rumors that make the rounds every six months or so.
While The Oklahoman was more focused on the tax incentives, Shady Pete with OKC Talk honed in on where the new Buc-ee's would be located. According to his "sources," they're eyeing a stretch of far western OKC sandwiched between Yukon and El Reno:
OKCTalk has learned from reliable sources that the company has had preliminary discussions with the City of Oklahoma City and the Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) to open at I-40 and Cimarron Road, an area between El Reno and Yukon.
Due to the typical massive traffic in and out of a Buc-ee's, it would be necessary for ODOT to completely rework the I-40 and Cimarron exchange. Currently, the intersection is a 2-lane road over the interstate with basic on- and off-ramps and stop signs.
Really? They want to build in the OKC–Yukon–El Reno badlands?
Like, I get it. Buc-ee's is a travel spot and builds on the outskirts of large metros, but couldn't they have picked a less depressing stretch of land that locals will actually drive to? That area of I-40 is basically 20 minutes out of the way from everywhere. The only reason to go that far west is if you're on your way to get an onion burger or running from the law!
Then again, beggars cannot be choosers, and as a guy who likes to stop by a Buc-ee's when they're in the area, it may be worth a random trip every now and then. You know, if the alleged potential deal actually happens.
