Sylvia Corkill Leaves News 9…

Another well-known face is leaving the OKC airwaves.

After nearly 10 years with KWTV News 9, Sylvia Corkill – the anchor and reporter who received an international 15 minutes of fame in the Tiger King documentary – has worked her final broadcast for the Oklahoma City station.

Here’s her Facebook post that teased the farewell:

After the newcast, Sylvia shared this photo from the set:

In case you care – and I’m going to assume about 50% of our viewing audience does – the person holding the phone in Sylvia’s farewell pic is sports reporter and producer Haley McCormick. In other news, that sound you just heard was Dean Blevins begging for his old job back.

I have no clue what’s next on Sylvia’s career path.

She didn’t leave the stereotypically sobby farewell post most anchors share on social media when changing career paths or leaving a market. But according to the Ogle Mole Network, this appears to be a somewhat amicable breakup.

Apparently, Sylvia let News 9 management know a while back that she would not be renewing her contract, giving the station a chance to go out and find her replacement… former OKC Fox anchorette Shelby Love.

Although this appears to be a nice breakup, you do have to wonder if News 9’s continued push toward AI production automation – and the mishaps that have resulted from it – took their toll.

I know Sylvia wasn't a fan:

Anyway, whether she’s moving on to a different market, simply returning to her hometown of Lawton, or going back in time like a Terminator to kill the people who invented AI TV production, we wish Sylvia the best of luck on her career journey.

Stay with The Lost Ogle. We’ll keep you advised.
