As we mentioned in a previous Dumpster Fire, the crazy Christian nationalist citizenry of Broken Arrow are up in arms after a city planning commission approved a request to rezone land to accommodate a 38,000-sq.-ft. mega-mosque.
That meeting – which took place on December 18, 2025 – drew overflow crowds and angry public comment from local bigoted townsfolk, with most hiding behind faux concerns like “cultural integration, economic impacts, and infrastructure” – issues the city somehow manages to handle just fine for dozens and dozens of Christian mega churches around town.
In fact, the mega mosque has become such an issue in local racist conservative circles that it even got the attention of famed OKC Islamophobe Crazy Carol Hefner. She left this post to rally the troops:
Yikes. If Carol thinks the path of Islam is wild, just wait until she hears about what Christians do when they enter a country. Islam has nothing on them!
Now that the vote has cleared the commission, the only thing blocking the mosque from being built is the Broken Arrow City Council. On January 12, 2026, they will vote on whether to approve the rezoning and conditional use permit needed for the project.
This vote has given the Broken Arrow Islamophobia Brigade – a who's-who collection of old white-haired conservative people with way too much time on their hands – one last opportunity to launch a mini-Derplahoman crusade to oppose the project.
In fact, they gathered last night to coordinate their mini crusade to block the mosque. Here’s a pic and video of the gathering by something called the Oklahoma Lion:
I think the Oklahoma Lion is owned or managed by State Representative Gabe Woolley. He’s replaced Nathan Dahm as one of the most embarrassing lawmakers at the Oklahoma Capitol, and not just because he wears his man bun and Daisy Dukes in public:
A loud and proud formerly gay lawmaker with Christian nationalist political views that lean just to the right of Ryan Walters, Gabe’s been organizing the old-school crusade against the mosque on social media.
For example, here’s a video where he – in a pathetic attempt to hypocritically justify why the government should favor one religion over another – twisted up his own non-fact-based history lesson to explain why Islam just isn’t fit for his twisted, historically inaccurate version of “American Civilization.”
Yikes! I don’t know what was scarier – Woolley’s insane views, or his choice in background music. Seriously, what was up with that? Was he trying to make sure he wasn’t the most formerly gay thing in that video?
“Hmm. What music should I put to my soft-spoken anti-Islam screed? Classic rock? Generic hip-hop? Heavy metal? No, I’ll pick new-age massage parlor. That’s the one.”
Anyway, I know I live in the Islamophobia capital of the U.S., but isn’t it nuts that there are still people out there who live, breathe, and think like Gabe Woolley and his Broken Arrow crusaders?
In a strange way, you have to feel sorry for him. The guy’s been so thoroughly marinated in Christian nationalist dogma that he’s unable to see his own hypocrisy, bigotry, or sexual orientation! It’s sad stuff!
Anyway, as I mentioned, the Broken Arrow City Council is expected to vote on the measure next week, and an item that should easily be rubber stamped will face contentious debate and controversy thanks to a couple of hundred racist religious zealots.
If the council caves to the mob, which – being the Broken Arrow City Council – I imagine they will – CAIR has already said they will sue on discrimination grounds. Here’s a quote from their Oklahoma attorney:
That’s swell. One thing we love to do in Oklahoma is waste money on illegal, unconstitutional ideas and practices, so I imagine Tulsa Mega Mosque vs. Broken Arrow City Council will be a fun one to cover.
