These Are the Actual 10 Best Pizzas in Oklahoma City

Editor's Note: A few week's back, I stumbled across this list of Where To Get The Best Pizza in OKC from News 9. I thought it was kind of lame, but then remembered one of my best friend's – Rob Lincoln – is one of OKC's most prominent pizza snobs! I asked him to come up with a more appropriate list and...

I’ve had it with top 10 best pizza lists in Oklahoma City!

I’m sure they all meant well, but none of them get it right. In fact, most aren’t even close – pandering to advertisers, regurgitating outdated lists for clicks and sometimes blatantly listing places they’ve never visited.

As a pizza connoisseur who's been to just about every pizza place in the metro, here is a countdown of the real MVP pizzas in the OKC metro:

10. The Jones Assembly - 901 W. Sheridan, OKC

Competition for the tenth spot on this list was fierce, but The Jones currently sits a cut above the honorable-mentions, with its chef-driven kitchen producing amazing wood-fired pizzas that are the perfect complement to the energetic atmosphere. It’s also an awesome venue for live music.

9. Sauced on Paseo - 2912 Paseo, OKC

The pizza has always been good here, but now it’s encroaching on great. I’ve got my eye on you, Sauced. If you haven’t been to the Paseo Arts District in a bit, you might be surprised by the impressive environmental updates, including a redesigned Sauced on Paseo that includes an arcade, full bar, and awesome indoor/outdoor seating areas. I recommend the Hot Honey + Burrata and the Nichols Hills, both available as slices on Mondays. Do not leave here without an oatmeal cream pie to go.

-

8. Papa Angelo’s - 6744 NW 39th Expressway, Bethany

Don’t even think about using a fork to eat this pizza in downtown Bethany – it would probably upset the owner if he caught you doing it. Papa Angelo’s takes its pizza seriously, as they should, because they’re quietly making some of the best New York-style pizza around. This is the only place where I order a cheese slice instead of pepperoni; it’s that good.

-

7. Pizza Shack - 210 E. Highway 66, Arcadia

Your pizza staycation location is on The Mother Road near Pops 66 and the Round Barn in Arcadia. Brought to you by the owners of Chicken Shack, Pizza Shack is on a very short list of places where you can find St. Louis-style pizza – in fact, it might be the only one! Please let me know if you know of another. The pizza here is thin but sturdy, baked on tile with a dark, zesty sauce and an abundance of toppings. They bring it to your table in a bag that they cut open, wafting intoxicating pizza steam in dramatic fashion.

-

6. Rendezvous Pizza - 27 E Sheridan Ave., OKC

Located in the heart of Oklahoma City’s Bricktown entertainment district, Rendezvous is currently the only place in the city where you can choose from four different styles of pizza: New York, Detroit, Chicago Thin (tavern style) and their newly launched Cali style (I haven’t tried this one yet, I’ll report back). They’re great at all of the styles, and I also highly recommend their cherry wood smoked peanut butter and jalapeño jelly wings.

-

5. Empire Slice House - 1804 NW 16th St., OKC

Empire is the place I credit with elevating the entire pizza game in Oklahoma City. A NY-style slice shop specializing in creative topping combos and a vibey environment, Empire is expanding its presence and now includes six locations in Edmond, OKC, Stillwater and Tulsa. I always get a pepperoni slice and MCA when I go, but late night often calls for a Ghostface Killah. Their current special is called Tommy Pickles… and I need to try this.

-

4. Hideaway Pizza - 5022 N. Western Ave., OKC

Hideaway (a.k.a. The Way) is Oklahoma’s best chain pizzeria with 25 locations in Oklahoma, Arkansas and Texas (plus the original Stillwater location). One word: Pepperonipalooza. Start with a 50/50 (fried mushrooms and mozzarella) and Just-A-Beginner salad. The Pepperonipalooza is best on their hand-tossed crust but try it on the OG thin crust and let me know if I’m wrong. An ice-cold Schooner of ’57 Ale pairs well. Try the frozen lemonade pie.

-

3. Dado’s Pizza - 10942 North May Ave., OKC

Don’t let its unassuming strip mall location fool ya, this place is currently serving Oklahoma City’s best New York-style pizza. These guys use a special filter that creates a molecular twin of NY city water, which they believe makes the best pizza. Not sure if that’s true, but you can’t argue with the delicious results. Their monthly featured specialty pizzas are always worth a visit. Get a side of vodka sauce if you get garlic knots.

-

2. Saucee Sicilian - 1807 N. Classen Blvd, OKC

Hands down the best Neapolitan-style pizza in OKC, and we have some strong competitors in that category including Pizzeria Gusto. The food truck version is awesome too (it’s how I fell in love with this place originally), but you really need to try it inside the restaurant. Try their super fresh, house-made pasta specials too.

-

1. Woodward Pizza - 119 W 2nd St., Edmond

If you’re a Detroit-style pizza virgin, this is the place I recommend you allow to deflower you. So far, it’s the best expression of this square pan style Oklahoma has to offer statewide. Bonus, it sits next to American Solera at the Icehouse, so it shouldn’t be difficult to convince your beer-loving friends to join you.

Honorable mentions go to The Hall’s Pizza Kitchen, Jo’s Famous Pizza, The Wedge, Pryor’s Pizza Kitchen and Osteria – which almost never serves pizza but was slinging some of the best pies around at the recent Plaza District Festival.

Oklahoma City is becoming a major league pizza city before our eyes. Help that momentum by visiting one, or all, of the pizzerias in this list. I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments.
