Although I’m not a big fan of the genre, one thing I do enjoy about country music is how closely the songs and lyrics imitate real country life. You know, everyday things like driving down a dirt road in your pickup truck with your blue jeans on while kissing your cousin or whatever.
Knowing that, I have to say I was a bit surprised when I learned Coal County Sheriff Jason “Caddilac” Smith’s debut country album doesn’t have one song about shoving his wife or punching a deputy’s husband. Via Yawn Doc:
Criminal indictments against Coal County Sheriff Jason Smith and Undersheriff Jesse Yother were unsealed today by Oklahoma Attorney General Gentner Drummond’s office, with Smith facing two misdemeanor assault charges for allegedly shoving his own wife and punching a deputy’s husband July 26.
Smith, 48, is also accused of habitual drunkenness and sexual harassment of employees in a removal proceeding approved by the state’s multi-county grand jury, which issued the indictments Nov. 21…
Wow. He shoved his wife, punched a co-worker’s husband and sexually harassed his employees? What a dick! At that rate, Morgan Wallen may want to book him as an opening act!
Seriously, just look at the guy. He’d fit right in, right:

If the dark eyes, mutton chop goatee, and lack of a discernible neck didn’t give it away, Sheriff Smith gives off major power dominance predator vibes, or as they call it rural Oklahoma, prime law enforcement material.
Check out some of the details of the harassment:
Smith, an aspiring country music singer who bears the nickname “Cadillac,” is accused of making repeated sexual and inappropriate comments on May 19 to a sheriff’s office employee.
“Some of these comments and acts included Jason Smith grabbing [her] by the neck and pulling her hair during work hours,” the petition for Smith’s removal states. “These comments were sexual in nature, creating a hostile work environment for [her].”
That same day, Smith allegedly “made repeated inappropriate and unprofessional comments” to one of his deputies.
“Some of these comments and acts included Jason Smith touching [the deputy] on her breast(s) and adjusting her sheriff’s deputy vest,” the petition states.
Really He felt up an employee while adjusting her vest? Who does he think he is? Than manager of White House Black Market?
Despite the fact that the grand jury has unsealed its indictment, and his days in office may be numbered, Smith – like most drunks who drive big trucks, like country music and assault women – is denying the charges, and blaming it on everyone else.
These allegations are false. The allegations made are personally and politically motivated, based on one-sided testimony from employees of the previous administration,” Smith said. “I’m looking forward to my opportunity to be heard in court, and I absolutely believe I will be completely vindicated of these accusations. I fully intend to keep serving the citizens of Coal County as your duly-elected sheriff.
I don’t know if I buy that. Where there’s bad music there’s usually a guy with a cowboy hat and guitar nearby, and this is the only song I hear playing:
As a result, I’m going to believe the accusers, grand jury, and attorney general on this one, and look forward to when he’s a duly-elected nothing.
