At least he does now that it’s politically convenient!
Get in the soup line and don’t be afraid to ask for more! Kevin Stitt cares about the hungry now!
Well, kind of.
Even though he has turned down federal funds to help feed lower income Oklahomans twice, Kevin Stitt has been hard at work the past few weeks grandstanding on the DC government shutdown, and – like everyone else – the potential loss of SNAP benefits for thousands of Oklahomans, from lower income families to frail senior citizens to white rural methheads who live in a trailer outside Meeker.
First, he issued a memo to all state agencies telling them to analyze their reliance on federal funding – especially for programs like SNAP – and submit plans within a week to keep essential services running if the shutdown drags on.
Then he held a press conference at the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma to play up the hype and sympathy, when all he really wanted to do was play politics.
This shutdown could end today if democrats in the Senate would vote yes on this clean funding bill.

They are holding vulnerable Oklahomans hostage while playing political games. It needs to end now. pic.twitter.com/S3THloj7Xj
Sure, we know the only reason Stitt cares about food security now is because it gives him a chance to play politician and criticize Democrats over the gridlocked government shutdown in DC, but I guess that’s a move in the right direction!
Yes, it would have been nicer if this were because he grew a soul or became a Christian in not just name but practice, but we’ll take this progress, even if it only helps overshadow his Christ-like war on the homeless.

Anyway…
I guess we can expect to see more dopey propaganda photos of Gov. Stitt looking bored and out of place at area food banks and soup kitchens – as more hungry Oklahomans get in line by the day – but don’t expect him to hang around after the photo op. The soup gets cold, and this good ol' boy ain’t into vichyssoise. Plus, there’s still a few homeless camps left to raid!
We’ll see how long this “compassion” lasts. Stay with The Lost Ogle. We’ll keep you advised.
