It looks like we have a new shady online charter school to welcome to Oklahoma!
On Tuesday, Ryan Walters walked into his office, hooked up some crusty tape recorder mics straight out of 1987, and recorded a video announcing that he’s welcoming something called the “American Virtual Academy” – a “pro-American, patriotic education” online charter school grift – to Oklahoma.
Just like with Class Wallet, Prager U, and all the other schemes that Ryan has unleashed on Oklahoma, the academy appears to be nothing more than a school choice grift that will siphon money from public schools and put it in the pockets of right-wing psychopaths who hate public education.
Check it out:

Seriously, can we get a kid from some high school A/V club to go fix Ryan’s microphone? I’ve heard better audio at the Harbor Mountain Coffee Shop drive-thru! He sounds like some unhinged right-wing See 'n Say toy:
"The Grifter says “Greeeeeeeed.”
According to a KFOR report, American Virtual Academy appears to be an Arizona version of Epic Charter Schools – a district where the students fail while the people who founded it get rich.
KFOR discovered that the school’s founder, Damian Creamer – which, ironically enough, is the same pseudonym Ryan probably uses when visiting certain Corey Deangelis websites – earned over $24 million in salary over the last five years, all while school test scores plummeted.
In fact, they were so bad that the school is now in the process of being shut down:
In Arizona, American Virtual Academy also operates an online charter school called Primavera Online School.
Primavera faced heavy scrutiny recently from Arizona state officials after its students’ test scores had continued to decline over a several-year period…
Last month, KPNX reported Arizona’s State Charter School Board unanimously voted to begin the process of shutting Primavera down.
Listen, I believe every student in Oklahoma — regardless of race, gender, or whatever political Kool-Aid their parents are drinking — deserves access to a quality education. But if we’re going to let one group fall hopelessly behind, can we at least make sure it’s the conservative wackos enrolling their kids in some half-baked “patriotic education” charter school? You know, the kind of place where the correct answer to every test question is “Thanks, Obama.”
Seriously, if one demographic has to spiral further into uninformed ignorance, it might as well be the one actively campaigning for it... right?
Sure, they usually rely on homeschooling to do this brain damage, but if Ryan Walters wants to funnel public money into speeding up the great right-wing yahoo decline, I say we just shut up and let them.
Who knows? Maybe that’s the real Fermi paradox of modern conservatism – they raise each new generation to be so stupid that the whole movement eventually collapses under the weight of its own dumb.
