UCO Football Coach Still Celebrating Big Playoff Win…

The local media is finally giving the UCO football program its proper due!

Four months after he led UCO to its first playoff win in ages, UCO Fightin’ ‘Chos head football coach Adam Dorrel was recently arrested in Edmond on DUI charges.

Based on the sobriety he displayed in police body cam footage, I’m pretty sure the guy's been drinking continuously since at least early December. He could barely speak a word without getting lost inside his thoughts, and tried to tell the cops he was simply “meditating.”

Check this out:

Yikes! It’s never a good sign when the head football coach looks like he just spent 36 straight hours drinking and partying with the UCO cheer team. Get the guy a less douchey truck and put him in rehab, pronto!

Anyway, I just want to say that as a UCO alum who’s never been to a UCO football game – and, unless they restore my name to the Wikipedia list of notable alumni, will never go to one – I’m both embarrassed and outraged by...

A) The DUI arrest and,
B) Coach Dorrell's ability to handle booze.

Seriously, he’s like the opposite of Barry Switzer.

If The King was shitfaced and got pulled over for DUI in Norman he would’ve hopped out of the car and charmed all the cops with old stories about Brian Bosworth, Billy Sims, and Little Joe Washington before being let go with only a warning.

Sure, being the coach at UCO is different – I doubt most Edmond cops know who Joe Aska is – but that was pathetic. He didn't even try to use his football clout or connections to get out of the ticket. What a loser!

Although it's for the wrong reasons, I will admit it’s still kind of neat to see my alma mater’s football team in the local news.

If this isn’t a sign that they’re moving up in the world, I don’t know what is!

The OKC collegiate DUI arrest news circuit usually only kicks in when it involves someone who either plays (or played) or coaches (or coached) at OU or OSU. It doesn’t matter if they’re a forgettable also-ran, star player, or head coach—if someone bleeding crimson or traffic-cone orange gets busted for drinking and driving, or even public intox, the arrest will be covered.

The other small college schools in the state – despite having players that drink – rarely, if ever, get any media attention for their arrests, so I guess this is a big deal for UCO. Maybe it will help increase attendance at home games, and put alums like me back in the seats again... or for the first time.

If so, I think a different coach should be on the sideline for the ‘Chos.

Although the media coverage is nice – any pub is good pub, right? – I’d think Chad Richison, the Boone Pickens of UCO, should fire Coach Dorrel faster than a middle manager at Paycom.

Just like there are lots and lots of fresh UCO grads ready to work for a notorious HR software company, there are plenty of college football coaches out there who can win on the Div II level… while also being able to hold their booze.
