I hope everyone survived Oklahoma’s chaotic return to the Dust Bowl!
This past Friday, a massive dry-weather wind event blew into Oklahoma, shrouding the state in an eerie, apocalyptic haze of dirt, dust, and debris that made the end times seem near for everyone, especially those who suffer from allergies and asthma.
I’ve lived in OKC for all 46 years of my life and have never seen anything like it:
While a little Pledge can handle the dust and Zyrtec can help with allergies, the real story was the devastation caused by the wildfires that roared through the state like a Mad Max biker horde.
Fueled by dry air and massive wind gusts, they reduced hundreds of homes and structures in central Oklahoma to rubble and ashes. One of the hardest-hit areas was western Stillwater.
So far, it appears the most prominent wildfire victim is Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt. He was on the scene and on the story to document the infernal damage to his farm near Luther.
Listen, we enjoy lampooning Governor Stitt—a wealthy banker whose primary residence is a lavish mansion near Oak Tree—on this website.
We also have no problem criticizing War Boy Oklahoma politicians—i.e., Walters, Ryan—who never let a good tragedy go to waste and seem to enjoy exploiting disasters for political gain.
That being said, as opposed to people on Reddit and social media who have found a way to criticize the Governor for sharing the video and drawing attention to how the fires have impacted him and his family, I’m going to take the high road here and offer my sincere condolences to Kevin Stitt.
Yes, the fire only took out his farm. Yes, he won’t feel the burn as much as people who lost their homes. And yes, the video did kind of come across as a mini-endorsement for soon-to-be tax-free gun safes, but the guy literally lost his farm to a wildfire!
Who cares that he’s a wealthy Republican who endorsed Trump’s DOGE plan to gut FEMA?
“But Patrick! Mother Nature sure does. It’s Kevin Stitt! He sucks!”
I know, I know—he definitely does suck, but I’m proud that I draw my schadenfreude line at people losing their property, possessions, and potato gardens to natural disasters. Even if you don’t like them, that’s never cool!
Well, unless it’s Ryan Walters. As long as it’s only an EF1, I would not be upset if a mini-dustnado ripped his roof off during the next Dust Bowl apocalypse.
Anyway, if you want to help Kevin Stitt—or any other Oklahomans truly in need of help—recover from Friday’s wildfires, I’d encourage you to go full Oklahoma Standard and make a donation to the Payne County United Way.
They’ve set up a Stillwater Strong campaign dedicated to helping with wildfire relief efforts in the area and can put your money to good use.
We sincerely wish everyone affected by the wildfires—and those who now have dust lung—the best of luck in recovering from this weekend’s wind-fueled disaster.
Stay with The Lost Ogle. We’ll keep you advised.
