AG Gentner Drummond ‘Pleased and Proud’ of Release of Treasonous Insurrectionists…

I hope everyone enjoyed the first week of the Trump presidency. I know I sure have. In the past week, I’ve bought cheap eggs and gas, updated my globe, and even got to report my first immigrant to ICE. What a great time to be alive, huh?

I’m not the only one having so much fun in MAGA sun.

You know those cop-beating mouthbreathers who stormed and desecrated the US Capitol in a haphazard effort to overthrow the certification of a free and fair Democratic election?

Well, I guess all of those people were pardoned. Which is… uhm… obviously something the law and order party should be pleased and proud to report... right?

I know Gentner Drummond sure is.

Fresh off clearing the brave heroic cop who followed his training and nearly killed a frail senior citizen, he proudly announced this week that he is pleased with the great job his team did in helping set all the insurrectionists free…

In an odd way, I don’t have a major issue with the non-violent offenders being pardoned.

If someone got caught up in the moment and entered the Capitol in search of an insurrection souvenir or whatever, and wasn’t on the front lines beating cops over the head with flag poles and fire hydrants, does it really matter in the whole scheme of things if they’re pardoned or not? Maybe it would serve us and the country good to move on.

In fact, if I were President Biden, I would have beaten Trump to the punch and pardoned all the non-violent January 6th participants before I left office. That would have actually been a smart, savvy move, which explains why he didn’t do it.

Not only would they have forced the pardoned insurrectionists to thank Sleepy Joe for their freedom, but then Trump would have been put in the uncomfortable spot of pardoning all the violent offenders. Additionally, the move would have helped overshadow Biden’s boneheaded decision to issue a broad sweeping pardon to all his friends and family members!

Although it’s stupefying that Drummond spun the release as such a big positive thing, and also gives a sneak preview as to how far low he’ll go to score votes from the God’s Misfits, The Enid Freedom Fighters, and other sects of the GOP, at least he didn’t pull a Marcuswayne Mullin – a guy who shat himself as the rioters tried to storm the House Chambers – and go on TV and try to defend and distract from Trump’s move:

Just about any time I hear Marcuswayne talk, and in the process, broadly and moronically represent the voices, views, and intellect of Oklahoma citizens to the rest of the world, I’m always reminded of this quote by George Carlin:

"There's one thing you might have noticed I don't complain about: politicians. Everybody complains about politicians. Everybody says they suck. Well, where do people think these politicians come from? They don't fall out of the sky. They don't pass through a membrane from another reality. They come from American parents and American families, American homes, American schools, American churches, American businesses, and American universities, and they are elected by American citizens. This is the best we can do folks. This is what we have to offer. It's what our system produces: Garbage in, garbage out."

If Marcuswayne is the garbage rotting in the sun for two weeks because you missed trash day, at least James Lankford –in this case – is the post-Christmas trash bag full of shiny gift wrap.

He’s actually taken a sane and practical view on the issue, which means he’ll likely be challenged again by a deranged right-wing pastor who marries children in the next Republican primary:

Sen. James Lankford, a Republican from Oklahoma, told CNN he was still digesting the “details” of Trump’s pardons and commutations, but pressed on how some of the recipients were responsible for attacking police officers, he said, “I think if you attack a police officer that’s a very serious issue and they should pay a price for that.”

“I think we need to continue to say we are a party of law and order,” Lankford said. “And that is incredibly important to be able to protect those folks who are protecting us every single day.”

You know, I honestly think the most impressive thing the MAGA right has accomplished in the last eight years is making James Lankford look like a moderate voice of reason. I’m not pleased and proud to report that, but it’s the truth.

Anyway, as I mentioned, this is probably a sneak preview of the Gentner Drummond we’ll get to know for the next 500 days or so. I can’t wait to see how proud he – and other Oklahoman politicians are – when Trump invades Greenland or is inaugurated for his third term as President.
