TLO Restaurant Review: Saturn Grill

I first went to the Saturn Grill, located in the rich part of town at 6432 Avondale Drive in Nichols Hill, quite a few years ago and, sadly, I didn’t have a good experience. Of course, though, I wasn’t as experienced in the world of non-taco truck dining as I am now. Sort of.

Either way, my girlfriend wanted to go to Trader Joe’s and afterward, she wanted to have lunch at one of her favorite places, Saturn Grill. Even though I was somewhat squeamish about this restaurant, I was determined to give it a professional try…and, some twenty years later, it wasn’t too bad!

See, I can be a good boyfriend!

Driving past the Nichols Hills police department—of course, I usually have to be a lookout for cops, but that’s my own thing— we parked, walked through Saturn’s doors, and headed straight to the counter to order our food, quick and easy.

Mission accomplished we took a seat at a table. It was then I noticed their coffee bar.

Wanting a little sweet treat to tide us over as our food was being prepared, I ordered a Café Americano ($4.50) and a Snickerdoodle ($2.50) cookie, and a Strawberry Cupcake with Cream Cheese Frosting ($3.75) for her.

Even though we had only been there for a couple of minutes, I felt this place was too fancy for me. The Café Americano coffee was dangerously good, far better than the knock-off convenience store’s $1 version. Another cup, please!

For the sweets, I completely gobbled the cookie up without haste, but it was far too extravagant for this pauper of a man. My girlfriend, on the other hand, enjoyed it without a care in the world, saving her treat for after supper.

While we waited for the main course to be delivered, I noticed a dishonorably discharged Oklahoma City celebrity sitting next to me – The Ronnie Kaye. He was eating the soup and crackers and, I must say, Saturn’s Roast Chicken ($12.95) sandwich looked tremendous when compared to his.

My lunch consisted of flatbread that is covered in oven-roasted pulled chicken breast that is layered with melted Swiss cheese, tomatoes, mixed greens and, of course, their phenomenal honey mustard with a scoop of potato salad and one thick pickle slice, for company.

I don’t remember what I doing in the 2000s to pan this meal so economically, but I fully admit I was so wrong! On fresh flatbread, the chicken breast was so juicy and the honey mustard so tangy, that I swallowed the wrap seemingly whole.

A great lunch…or so I thought, as one of my girlfriend’s favorite dishes at Saturn hit the table and, oh god, it was glorious!

She hit the motherload with her riotous lunch, the Vegetarian Mushroom Lasagna ($14.95). Featuring chopped portobello mushrooms, pesto ricotta, five blended cheeses, spicy tomato garlic sauce, and fresh Parmesan cheese, it comes with a side tomato-mozzarella salad and an artisan breadstick.

The seemingly complex vegetarian lasagna, with its wonderfully blended cheeses sauntering with ripe spices and the breathy portobello mushrooms, make for any great meal let alone lunch. Even the breadstick was feeling the love of this. If you ever get the chance, try it!

So, I guess I now have to try more of their menu, including the dinner menu as soon as I can. Truthfully, I can’t believe I had waited so long to retry this spot but, to be fair, I am afraid of the Nichols Hills police…can I ride with you?

Cómpralo ya!
