OKC morning meteorologists continue to drop like hailstones!
Just a month or two after KWTV Channel 9 sent Hannah Scholes and her fetus packing, KOCO weekend morning meteorologist Taylor Cox announced she is leaving the channel and fleeing the TV news industry like one of those morons trying to drive away from the tornado in the new Twisters trailer:
Okay, so maybe it wasn’t that dramatic.
Or maybe it was.
Taylor announced the news on Sunday morning. The station then threw together a short and sweet article about her departure and shared video of her announcement.
Here’s a screenshot:
I’m sharing a screenshot and not a link to the article because by Monday morning, the article and video were removed from the KOCO website and now redirect to Damon Lane’s weather blog where he shares NSFW photos of hailstones.
I assume KOCO removed the page because management enacted the unwritten TV news management rule that states you’re supposed to pretend on-air talent never existed once they quit or leave a channel, even if they do so on good terms.
Fortunately, Yahoo! – a website that’s still a thing – saved a video of Taylor’s announcement from KOCO’s feed that I was able to swipe and share with you. In the whole scheme of things, it’s pretty standard and cliché:
I do have a sad confession to make.
Before the weird Yahoo News! thing on my Chrome browser showed me this video, I had no clue Taylor Cox was a person who reported weather in OKC!
This is because the last thing I ever want to do on a Saturday or Sunday morning is watch local TV news. But either way, my lack of knowledge about a cute TV meteorologist rattled me to my inner rain-wrapped storm core and reminded me just how old I've gotten.
Fifteen years ago, we had an entire beat dedicated to the daily movements and whereabouts of Emily Sutton and Gary England’s severe weather babes. Nowadays, I don’t even know these creatures exist until they announce they’re quitting. It’s like waking up in the morning to see cool photos of the Northern Lights your friend in Del City shared on social media! It’s very upsetting.
Anyway, I guess we wish Taylor the best of luck doing whatever it is she’ll be doing. Hopefully, KOCO finds an equally talented meteorologist that we won’t know about until they quit to replace her.
Stay with The Lost Ogle. We’ll keep you advised.
