Extra-extra dry barbeque! Read all about it!
Earlier today, Oklahoma Attorney General Gentner Drummond announced that an Oklahoma Grand Jury has indicted Brent Swadley, whistleblower Curtis Breuklander, and some guy named Timothy Raymond on a variety of felony fraud charges related to the infamous Swadley’s Foggy Bottom Swindle.
Naturally, the news comes just days after Swadley's sued the state for failing to pay its fraudulent invoices.
Here are details via AG Gentner Drummond's office:
The Multi-County Grand Jury has indicted three men for conspiracy to defraud the state and other fraudulent claims stemming from the Swadley’s Bar-B-Q contract with the Oklahoma Tourism and Recreation Department.
Ronald Brent Swadley, Curtis Ray Breuklander and Timothy Raymond Hooper are charged with one felony count of conspiracy to defraud the state and five felony counts of presenting false or fraudulent claims against the state.
“The indictments issued today contain serious charges and will be prosecuted by my office on behalf of the People of Oklahoma,” said Attorney General Gentner Drummond.
This is awesome news! We've been yearning for this day like a fat guy waiting to pull a brisket from the smoker!
I just wish the state could have waited until the NBA trade deadline had passed to announce it.
Here’s more:
Prosecutors allege that Swadley’s Foggy Bottom Kitchen presented false invoices to the Tourism Department for payment of public funds and that the company directed a restaurant equipment supplier to fabricate invoices with inflated amounts for equipment. In one instance, a fabricated invoice for two used food smokers allegedly was increased by an additional 30 percent.
According to the indictment, two separate sets of invoices were maintained by Swadley’s Foggy Bottom Kitchen with one set containing original invoices received and paid by the company and the other set containing fraudulent invoices billed to the Tourism Department. The indictment alleges the conspiracy to defraud the State began in October of 2019 until the contract was cancelled in 2022.
I think we can all say that fake evangelical grifters who defraud taxpayers, especially under the not-so-watchful eye of the Stitt Administration, suck, and I can’t wait to watch these used wet naps go (hopefully) go down like an extra extra dry rib dipped in barbeque sauce.
This is going to be a fun case to watch, especially if you like your schadenfreude extra spicy!
Well, that is if they don't beat the charges.
Anyway, like everyone else in the for-profit media who only gets paid if you click this stuff, we’ll continue to monitor and update this story, and, of course, roast Brent Swadley like a rotisserie chicken whenever we can.
In the meantime, if you want to vote for Swadley’s for best breakfast, or steak or evangelical barbecue grifter in 405 Magazine’s “Best of 405,” you can do that here.
