Over the weekend, News 9 shared a video of a crazed lunatic in a red truck running another motorist off I-35 in Edmond during a demolition derby-style bout of road rage on Sunday.
Here's video of the incident that someone posted on Twitter:
I'm sure we've all had our moments of anger while driving on Oklahoma highways – it's kind of impossible not to – but that's what horns, middle fingers and "Come on! Learn how to drive, old man!" shouts are for. You can't just get mad and ram someone off the highway because they won't let you over. Well, unless they're protesting police violence. Then I guess it's okay.
Either way, no matter how tempting it may be, that's something you can't just do. It's dangerous, can hurt or kill people, and you may face a variety of charges like assault with a deadly weapon, child endangerment, or, in this case, a couple of tickets for speeding and an improper lane change.
An apparent road-rage incident was caught on camera Sunday afternoon along a major Oklahoma interstate.
The video shows the driver of a red pickup truck forcing another driver off the road along Interstate 35 in Edmond. The person who shot the video indicated that there was a child in that truck.
Nobody was injured in the crash.
The driver of the pickup truck was ticketed by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol but was released from the scene.
Yep, that's right. The dude in the red truck who went full psycho and intentionally ran someone off the highway wasn't arrested or charged with any major crime. This is despite the fact that:
A) It looks like he tried to harm someone, and
B) There was a child in his backseat
Naturally, the fact that the motorist wasn't charged or arrested for anything ignited the typical amount of online outrage. In a follow-up report on News 9, OHP has said they're now investigating the crime and charges may be coming.
“I will assure the public; we are definitely looking into (criminal charges)” OHP Trooper Eric Foster said. “Just because a citation was written to someone does not mean the case is closed.”
Foster said investigators are still piecing together just what caused the pickup driver to lose his cool.
“Obviously on the video you can see that it appeared to be a purposeful act, so regardless of the intent it appears to be that way,” Foster said. “If it does come out to be a purposeful act with a child involved, then there are other charges that can be levied because of that.”
Yep, they're piecing together what made the madman lose his cool and try to run someone off the road, because I guess that matters.
"So, what made you lose your cool?"
"The asshole in the Lexus cut me off. Also, MAGA and Blue Lives Matter. "
"Well, sounds good then. You're free to go! Drive safely and sorry for the inconvenience."
Seriously, you can say a lot of things about Oklahoma law enforcement, but I don't think anyone would accuse them of being patient and not rushing to judgement when they have video evidence of someone committing a crime. It kind of makes you wonder just how white and connected to law enforcement the driver of the truck must be.
On that, we currently have no clue who the driver of the truck is because News 9 won't name him. Despite the channel having a long history of identifying people who haven't been charged with crimes, they're taking the high road here:
Yep, News 9 suddenly had journalism ethics. Maybe the driver of the red truck is one of their storm chasers, too?
Anyway, I guess we'll continue to follow this story and update this article when or if he's ever charged. Stay with The Lost Ogle. We'll keep you advised.
